1. As Shri Ramakrishna neared the end of his life, he taught his
disciples to give up all attachment and focus on God. Many became
emotional and confused feelings with real spiritual growth.
2. Narendra Nath saw the danger in this emotional
behavior and spoke out against it. He taught the other disciples to be
strong, think clearly, and follow the Master’s true teachings.
11. COSSIPORE AND THE PASSING OF THE MASTER1.
Ramakrishna, though seriously ill, remained spiritually radiant and
focused on guiding his young disciples. Narendra grew rapidly in
spiritual strength and emerged as the leader of the group. The disciples
served Ramakrishna with full dedication.
2. Ramakrishna
entrusted Narendra with the responsibility of continuing his mission,
preparing him to lead a new spiritual movement. Despite his illness,
Ramakrishna shared deep mystical insights seeing the divine in all
beings and speaking of the unity of God and creation. He expressed
detachment from his physical suffering.
3. He guided Naren on the path of
renunciation and self-realisation, stressing the need to see beyond body
and mind. Inspired by Buddha’s life and teachings, Naren and two fellow
disciples went to Bodh Gaya in April 1886 to perform intense
austerities, committing to attain Enlightenment or die trying.
4.
Narendra and his companions visited Bodh Gaya, where Naren was deeply
moved by Buddha’s life and teachings. This intensified his longing for
spiritual realisation, which culminated in a profound experience of
Nirvikalpa Samadhi under Shri Ramakrishna’s guidance.
5. As Shri
Ramakrishna’s end neared, he transferred all his spiritual powers to
Naren, making him the bearer of his mission. He recognized Naren as the
future teacher who would spread the essence of Vedanta and serve
humanity through selfless work and spiritual leadership. Shri
Ramakrishna passed away on 16 August 1886, entering Mahasamadhi. This
moment marked the beginning of the Ramakrishna Order and Vivekananda’s
pivotal role in shaping modern spiritual thought.
