I'm sure some of you have gotten the word that Google Code is shutting down.  What should we do to set up an official repo on GitHub?  There's an "Export to GitHub" button on the Google Code page now, and Ryan Pavlik already has a mirror there.  Does anyone know if the Wiki will port over?

Not sure about the wiki. I'd suggest creating a VR Juggler "organization" on GitHub and the repo within that, for more straightforward handling of maintainership.

I'm willing to do that, but I don't know if Doug or Patrick might be able to port more data given their levels of permissions on this project.

Hi, Todd.
I exported one of my projects from Google Code to Github and it did
port the wiki and issues. (The code appeared quite quickly, but the
issues took a bit longer to show up.)

What is the benefit of creating a VR Juggler organization?

The benefit is that then the project has its own "namespace" on GitHub, rather than being tied to a single specific user. It means you can more effectively use GitHub Pages for free static site hosting (since then you get a subdomain all to the project - vrjuggler.github.io or similar for an org named vrjuggler) , and also allows for easier management of contributors. It's a pretty commonplace pattern for open source projects on GitHub.

OK, I've begun migration to a vrjuggler organization on GitHub.  I'll update this list when it is complete.

The relocation is complete!  It could use some spit & polish, but everything appears to be there.

URLs to know:
GitHub Pages page: http://vrjuggler.github.io/

To-Do's:
* I'm not an admin on the Google Code project, so I can't close it down & redirect it.  Someone else will have to do that.
* I'd like to migrate more projects over if we can.  I tried to migrate Maestro (https://code.google.com/p/maestro/) but it failed on me.  Are there other projects we can bring under the VR Juggler umbrella on GitHub?

One more thing: Who owns vrjuggler.org?  Can it redirect to vrjuggler.github.io ?

It looks like Glen Galvin at Iowa State University manages
vrjuggler.org. I can ask him to set up the redirect if you like.

Kevin,

I just emailed Glen, but if you're in the same building it wouldn't hurt to ask in person.

Thanks,
Todd

Thanks for taking this on. This is great to see.
