need more feedback: VPT7 preset storing and retrieval

I am trying to create separate thread for issues reported.
Two persons have reported problems with saving and retrieving presets. Since this is a quite essential thing to have working I would like to hear back from more people on this.

I have tested this quite a lot the last few weeks on my osx and windows 7 systems, and it has worked fine, so I am wondering if there is a certain order of events which might cause the problem.

So, if you could try to make a couple of presets with the layers in different positions. Remember that sources first need to be saved in the sourcebank, then selected to be included in the presets.
You can check what is stored in the presets by clicking on the stored button at the bottom of the preset section, and you can see the current values of the layers by clicking on the current button (same goes for the sourcebank).

Close VPT, open VPT and check if the presets have stored the information you think you have stored.

OK I've done some storage testing.  My layers, and cornerpins seem to be storing and recalling properly and show up as expected in re-boot.  But the sources window doesn't save most of the stuff.  I've looked in the storage window and sure enough, usually nothing gets saved.   I'll have time to look into this more hopefully in next 24 hours.

Thanks for looking into this issue

I'm running OSX 10.8.2

Sources are saving all info fine and transitioning fine between both source presets and layer presets.

Layer presets transition well, all info stored while running. Upon checking stored button all the info is there.

Upon a restart of VPT all source preset info is all there, sources are turned off.

Number of layers and preset names are stored from last session. All corner point info is default (centre screen) layer sources default to "none". However switching between presets it remembers which source presets I was using.

Would it help to send you a preset file or screen shot?

just double-check that when you save your sources, you shift-click on a circle to save it, then check the storage window before rebooting.

Yes, I've done this, and most of the settings aren't saved, though a slot is created and some settings are saved (only 10%?), but not the name of the movies.  Screen shot attached.

When running 64 bit Windows 8 neither my layer information or my sources. I may be missing something so I'll run you through my saving process. I save my presets into the preset bank, I then save my sources by shift-clicking one of the grey dots. When I restart, the names and amount of my presets are still there, but the layer window is just completely blank. Is there something I am missing? Very little information on the source settings is saved as well, It remembers which were turned on, but doesn't remember the the data eg. the video it was meant to be playing.

its the opposite way around. The presets in the VPT window contain the source presets. Check out the video:

I have now tried VPT 7 on a clean 10.8 install, works as expected, so that means the preset problems don´t seem to be related to 10.8.

Thanks to Jack for sending me screenshots and files, unfortunately still unresolved so hope to hear from other people.

Just tried VPT 7 on 2 other macs, 10.7.5 same problem, 10.5.8 saving presets works perfectly.

Current scorecard for me is:

10.8.2 - NO

10.8.3 - NO

10.7.5 - NO

10.5.8 - YES!

Too bad 10.5.8 is such a slow computer!

I did try opening the preset.json file from the 10.5.8 machine on the 10.8.2 machine and it did not open.

Which release of 10.8 did you get it working on?

Do I need any other software? Javascript, max etc?

Any thoughts on the missing patcher error in the message window? "patcher file presets.json missing patcher!"

I have the initial 10.8 release but will upgrade to the latest to see if it changes anything.

You don´t need anything special installed on a mac.

Not sure about the error message, since the file is a storage file, not a patcher.

I've got problems saving too. I checked the 'stored' window after saving, but when I restart VPT only part of the data was saved.

What information is retrieved?
