VPT crashing/not loading

when I open VPT two black windows pop up, ones says VPT and the other says preview and they load for a bit then close. I'm very new to this so i could be doing something wrong but I've read through the windows instructions and did everything exact but nothing seems to work. I also have other files than in the directions so I don't know what to do with those. the project path file name is different too and i can only open it as a note. Sorry if this was something super obvious that i could've fixed but I'm super lost.
