VPT8-clock trigger & saving projects/settings

 Kia ora HC,

 Awesome work! Thank you for another improved version of VPT.

 The clock trigger is fantastic timing as I was just trying to work out how I could get a particular video to appear intermittently throughout a long presentation for a particular project. This solves it. Thanks!

 My question is apart from the allocated 15 triggers, if I store more triggers as presets will it carry on from one set of triggers to the next preset of triggers? i.e, if I want more than 15 trigger times. Or do I manually have to select the next preset?

  Another thing perhaps you could clear up for me please? My reluctance to use VPT 7 over the final versions of VPT 6 was that I could simply save the project settings and return to them, like for a performance or theatre show. Which was a shame as VPT 7 had some better features. With VPT 7 & 8 if I change the presets then for example want to go back to a VPT project from 6 months ago that doesn't seem possible. They're lost. Hopefully I'm wrong and have missed something.

thanks for the feedback!

The clock trigger is limited to the 15 slots at a time, and you would have to switch the presets manually to get more slots unfortunately.

If you know someone using Max it is very easy to expand the number of slots and then open the file from VPT. If you download the source files the files are called vpt-timersketch3 and timermodule.

Regarding project settings I really hope that isn´t the case. You should be able to reopen a project half a year later if you are using the same version of VPT.

 Hello HC,

 Thanks a lot for your message and the suggestion. Don’t have any experience with Max and coding (will have to ask around), but have worked out a way to make it work with a combination of the clock trigger and the cuelist.

 Unfortunately have found some things not working as they should:

 F.Y.I - Am using VPT 8 on High Sierra (10.13.4)
 Have attached screenshots of the GUI & the contents of the max/message window.

 Some of these bugs didn’t seem to appear when I first tried VPT 8 a few days ago. I tried a fresh download and re-install as well as restarting the laptop but no change. Other suggestions welcome...

 - when I open VPT 8 the video source window says ‘default’ but nothing shows when I click on the arrow. I have to drag & drop my own folder

 -  when I change the number of screens (2) or source bank options (V V V V V V V M) in the prefs.txt file inside the “defaultproject-vpt8” folder (as well as ‘emptyproject’ just to be sure) those changes do not alter when I reopen VPT 8. See screen grab.

- when I create a layer with a video source set to full screen - there is a black box in front of it - despite there only being one layer. (?)

- When I closed the project it came up with a prompt to save save as “gui.json” so I saved it as “VPT-8-TEST.json” However when I tried to open that file directly with VPT8 it simply comes up as a blank new project.

 This was what I had encountered with VPT 7 - apparently no specific way to save a project that could be reopened at a later date with all the settings intact. btw - what’s the proper way to do it in VPT 8 please?

 So I then opened VPT 7 to see if these same issues would come up, there was no black box in front, default options were available, the previous setting were saved, and the changes I made in the prefs.txt file had changed.

 The only issue that remains is when selecting 2 screens - when I drag the output window to one screen it doesn’t come up in the other screen. I guess that’s perhaps because I’m not using Matrox TH2Go, but 2 outputs off my MacBook  - it supports 3 outputs: 2 x Mini Display Port and 1 x HDMI. Is it possible to use these as multiscreens with VPT or is that only via TH2Go?

 Appreciate any pointers/advice/help please. Hope some of this info is useful to you…

It doesn´t look like you are actually loading a project?

Everything you describe is a result of not loading a project. You should see the filepaths in the message window after a project is loaded and that is not happening in your case it seems.

Please have a look at the beginning of the manual which describes the new way to open a project.

I'm having the same problem. I've tried VPT on both windows and Mac machines and on both the "save" button is greyed out, even after loading a project as instructed in the tutorial and manual.

Hi,

That seems strange. Are you sure you loaded a project correctly? Because according to your screenshot of the Max Console, it doesn't look like any project was loaded. If you look at hc's post just above (you might have to click "-show quoted text-") you will see his screenshot of the Max Console includes more lines such as maskpath, projectpath, videopath, etc. which means a project has been loaded. But none of that is in your Max Console. Could you describe how you tried to open a project, and what happens (or if nothing happens) after you do?

I have a big problem , i change my lap and save my VPT folder, but in the new Lap all the layers are black window
