"MaxMSP has stopped working"

I've been getting the message "MaxMSP has stopped working" every time I try to launch the program.  This is true for both v.5 and v.6.  I am running Windows 7 64 bit.  Thanks!

1.Did you check out the manual, video tutorials and built-in help?

2.If you are on windows, have you installed quicktime, and do you have
a compatible graphics card/opengl driver?

3.Have you moved the VPT app out of the VPT folder? Don´t.

4.If this didn´t solve your problem, do a quick check of existing
topics/tags in the forum to see if a similar question has been asked
before.

5.If you are still stuck, you are welcome to post.

6.Choose a title which reflects your problem ("VPT doesnt work",
"problems", "help" are not very useful titles)

7.Let us know what computer and OS you are running, and which version
of VPT

8.Post the log. The log can be found by clicking cmd+m (mac) or ctrl+m
(win).

9.Give a detailed description of your problem.

10.If you think it could be relevant, post a screenshot.

Hi,

I´m having the same problem on W7 64 with both versions of VPT6r05 32 and 64. I´ve installed Quicktime 7.7.2 (the latest version). First I got a message from the windows firewall that maxMSP was trying to access the internet, however at that moment I had only a bad connection and it did not connect. Then VPT seems to hang.

So VPT starts, I can select layers and cornerpin, but I can not get any video to be displayed. Even the "V" button on the navigator is not operative.

Any solution in sight?

I´m attaching the log so far. Sorry if there is too much info on it, but I´m a newbie.

I´m running this on an ASUS N76VZ (i7 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M) OS W7 home premium.

hi,
Are you running this as a VPT application or are you trying to run the
collective from max? From the log it seems to be a openGL issue, so
doublecheck that you have the latest GL driver for your graphics card.
Also, it doesn´t seem to find the mxj java libraries which are
contained within the VPT app.

I'm trying to run it as VPT. Actually for now "the only" thing I need is cornerpin.
I'm trying to install the latest Open GL but have some problems. The OpenGL viewer only sees the on board graphic card from intel, whereas I´m running on the NVIDIA GT 650M.
Regarding the mxi java library, I have no idea why this could be.

I'll post again once I install the latest Open GL.

After spending the whole afternoon to get this running I´m still stucking on the same point.
I´ve upgraded the NVIDIA driver to the latest version with no success.
I´ve downloaded and installed MAX5 (which I did not have installed prior... I dod not even know this program)
I´ve had a lot (about 64) of windows updates installed ... since this notebook is brand new.

VPT does start. I do not get the "MaxMSP has stopped working" anymore. Actually I only got his once at the beginning.
The very strange thing is that the firewall warned me about MaxMSP trying accessing the internet after trying to launch the video in VPT. Specially considering I did not have Max installed, unless it came pre-installed by default. Could MaxMSP refer to something else? Anyway the firewall reports f:\DOWNLOADS\warez\VPT_6r05w64\VPT_6r05w64.exe is the software making MaxMSP wanting to access the internet.

The thing is that I can play around with VPT but do not get the VIDEO and I´m unable to activate the "V" button on the navigator.

I could not find the mxj java library (actually I don´t know its name) ... however I downloaded VPT again, but the files are identical as my former ones and I guess it should be OK.

Finally I rolled back the NVIDIA driver again, since the notebook runs an OEM version. So I know have the most up to date driver for this notebook from the ASUS website.

I was not able to update OPENGL (I do not even know how to do that ... does it come with the NVIDIA drivers?) ... and the OpenGLviewer only shows the intel graphic card, but not the nvidia.

I need this URGENTLY solved at latest for Thursday. This would greatly improve a dance performance in a somewhat complicated space here in Barcelona. Otherwise I will just place the beamer in front of the screen and have the shine through on the side wall instead of having it on the back wall.

Alternatively any tool for keystoning would help me out of this.
In later projects I would like using VPR with Processing and possibly Arduino ... however I´m just starting with all this stuff.

SOLVED ... for a few seconds, no it's worse

After downloading and installing MAX5 I copied MAX.jar into the main VPT directory and voilà it seemed to work. I could see the video on the MOFO.
Then I could not reproduce the error, but I get the "MaxMSP has stopped working" again and VPT hangs. I get this error also every time I do CTRL+M to get the log, so I can not post the log (which is empty anyway)
I managed playing arround a bit with one of the demo projects. Could see the video on the MOFO and make keystoning. Trying to load a different video led to the "MaxMSP has stopped working". So I renamed my video to the name of the preset video, but had no success. Actually it is my feeling that the "MaxMSP has stopped working" is appearing quite randomly. I can not reproduce it.

By the way I´ve noticed that the "V" button is only functional for MAC (sorry for the mistake).

I don´t know what´s going on here, but since only you and one other
person seem to have this problem it is very likely a os or computer-
specific issue that is hard for me to resolve unfortunately.
My only suggestion now is to try VPT 5.

Sorry to revive this thread after such a long time but I think I found a solution.  For some reason with the GT650m it seems to default to the integrated chip for openGL.  I just went to my Nvidia control panel->manage 3d settings and made sure that the 650m was listed as the preferred processor for VPT under Program Settings.  Seems to be working for me so far.  Thanks!

I´ve made the NVIDIA changes  and tried to find the MAX 5.0 and couldnt find this version. (just 6.0 demo period).

I have the VPT with 16 layers and works very well. But when I try to use the 32layers version, the problem occurs.
