Hello!

Just wondering if anyone on the forums has experience of capturing a VPT output to play out independently on a Media Player?
Basically we need to be able to set up a masked projection onto a specific structure using VPT and then try and export the output as a video file that we can play out off a Media Player. (we've looked at using the QT fullscreen capture tool but the resolution is pretty low.)

This is mainly due to the restriction of not being able to set up a computer to the projector due to cabling restrictions at the venue and also not having any Mac Minis or similar small computers that are small enough to mount on the ceiling next to the projector.

Any advice or suggestions most welcome...

 Thanks!

Haven't tried using this specifically with VPT, but Camstudio is a nice OSS desktop capturing tool I've used to devlop training materials and software demonstrations. I have recorded output on a dual screen 1920x1200 setup and the playback quality was bery good. It's easy to use and exports directly to AVI/SWF.

Might want to give it a shot:

Good luck.

Depending on your system, the syphon recorder should work ok.

Hi,

i have experience with software and hardware possiblities. Syphon recorder works best. If not possible: Split the output of your computer: 1dvi to projector: 1 dvi to dvd-recorder; Make sure you use the same aspect ratio, resolution, ... in recordingsettings. It worked but had to fiddle a bit with the settings of the projector (zoom and shift). Think that's because the settings of the dvd-player weren't very accurate. But it works! Only downside: not possible with multiple projectors...

Thanks for all the posts & advice. I'll give Syphon recorder a try. I think the problem with converting the output to a DVD and running it off a DVD deck is that DVD overscans so you will lose precision. We'll try to go with a a media player as it should play out the MOV files at the same resolution as recorded.
I was able to capture the VPT mofo output using the new QT player (10.1) screen recording function but couldn't get the VPT preview window to disappear off screen. It's red & orange tabs in the top left corner don't show up. Also I found the capture was juddery and affected the frame rate. So far from an ideal screen capture.

But perhaps that's an issue with my laptop as recently when I run VPT I find the output often gets very juddery and almost comes to a stop. It's a 2.8 GHz Inel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of DDR3 so should manage it OK. All the source files are the same - Photo Jpeg 640 x 480 @ 75% quality. Not sure why it does that? Could it be other software creating a conflict?

Have tried pressing the overdrive button - but I'm not sure that's what it's meant for...

 Thanks!

SSD for MacBook

 Hi!

I've had much better results with the Syphon Recorder - thanks for the suggestion. After recording the mofo output @ 1024 X 768 and playing it back with QT player full screen it mapped perfectly from a projector with the same native resolution. Hopefully it will work the same when playing from a media player when I manage to get one...

One recurring issue I've found is that often the playback from VPT gets pretty 'juddery' and almost slows down to a complete standstill - even when playing only one source video through a few output windows.

I found the same issue when using Syphon Recorder with the latest version of VPT. I've tried using the overdrive button but that doesn't seem to make any difference to performance. It happens even when there are no other programmes apart from Finder in the background.

I have a MacBook Pro 15-inch, Late 2008 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo model with 4 GB of RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB on Lion 10.7.4. It used to be more stable with VPT but recently the MBP seems really sluggish generally so I suppose it's the computer?

Any suggestions from the forum...? Does it possibly need more RAM or could it be another programme causing a conflict? I'm stumped what it could be...

 Thanks!
