I'm really stumped here.

I recently started a Joomla video site, http://PinePlainsViews.com and I have been populating it with videos using vPIP,  I have another Joomla website with 80 + Flash videos using vPIP so I am fairly familiar with it although I am a film maker and not a coder.

At any rate,
  • when you click on the poster frame the the .swf file plays as it should in vPIP.
  • when you click on the link text, the video plays in Thick Box, an option I never used before.
  • when the link text is clicked again, the actual .swf file plays from the hos without any vPIP sizing or controls.
There is no consistency in the actions.  Some of the video stories are fine such as:  http://www.pineplainsviews.com/video-stories/51-takedown
And another will have the erratic behavior:  http://www.pineplainsviews.com/video-stories/53-combine

I am running Joomla! 1.5.8 and vPIP .07 although some of the videos were embedded with an earlier version of vPIP.

Please help... I am trying to get this site up and running...

Thanks,

Stan Hirson

Well, first I would install the most recent version of vPIP for other installs, http://wiki.vpip.org/index.php?title=All_Other_Installs , and see if anything was fixed.

Thanks for getting back.

I just installed the most recent version of vPIP as you suggested.  I added a video using the code generator and the same thing happens: if you click the poster image the video plays in the swf player with controls, etc.  But if you click the link text, the video plays in some kind of Thick Box which I had never seen or used before.  Then, while a video is playing if you click the link text you get the raw video file from the host with no sizing, embedding, etc.

Is this some kind of Joomla issue?  It was working so well before.  The only thing I can think of is that I have recently upgraded to 1.5.8, but I do not know if that caused the change.

Thanks,

Stan

Example of problem described below: http://www.pineplainsviews.com/video-stories/47-wednesday-jam

These videos work correctly, and were in the same version of vPIP  and Joomla:

It seems as if the problem centers around the link text.  It either opens up a box or it opens the raw .swf file on the host, by-passing vPIP.  I'm trying to figure out workarounds because the site is going up live soon.

i have a similar issue on my 'hire us' page
http://ryanishungry.com/hireus
when you click the video link it plays in a thickbox (which was intended and happens when you just link to an object and have vPIP installed)
but if you click it the second time, it plays in place, which i don't want

i have not updated to the newest vPIP
and need to do that

but you are not alone, stan

Ryanne,

First, I want to let you know that I got a 404 on your link.  I saw from the menu that it should have been /hire-us rather than /hireus so if you have been unemployed for a while....  Hope that helps!

I see you are using JW's player.  From FLVs, I assume.  To be frank, I liked the playing in place better than the box for aesthetic reasons -- it just looks cleaner and kind of "magic" on the page.  But I see what you mean about the unintentional aspect of it.

I tried the JW player but could not get them to work when there were multiple videos in one article.  There was no way to stop the downloading from one to another and it caused a terrble traffic jam.  So I guess you are mixing JW and vPIP.

You can see what I mean on http://www.pineplainsviews.com/video-stories/54-dairyfarm and it should work like:
http://www.pineplainsviews.com/video-stories/51-takedown

Thanks, though for the company...  Hope you get it fixed.  I like the WP template you guys developed.

Looking at http://pineplainsviews.com/video-stories/54-dairyfarm I don't see onclick="vPIPPlay(...)" on any of the vPIP hVlog DV entries.  It may be that Joomla is stripping out the onclick entries.

Good for you, Enric!

With that piece of knowledge in hand I was finally able to figure out
what happened. With a little bit of Google, I found out that there
were many, many, many Joomla! developers who also had crucial tags
stripped out of their code since the latest upgrade to 1.5.8 (which I
had recently done). I appears as if 1.5.8 was primarily a security
"fix" that stripped code. Some in the forums claimed to have found a
fix by changing filter parameters for articles, but I tried it and it
did not work. I also tried some suggested extensions whose
documentation was too obtuse for me to decipher. I finally found a
great extension called sourcerer from http://www.nonumber.nl/sourcerer
. It allows you to EASILY place code in an article (or just about
anything else in Joomla) without interference.

And it worked!

It's free and very very easy to use and set up. Obviously, I HIGHLY
RECOMMEND it for Joomla.

I've had to go over a whole bunch of videos and revPIP them using
sourcerer and I'm extremely disappointed that the Joomla upgrade did
not announce the downside of this version. So there will probably be
a fix in the next upgrade....

Thanks Enric and Ryanne, I hope you get your videos fixed.

Great Stan, I'm glad you found a way to make vPIP work in this new relesae of Joomla!  And have shared your information here so others could find it.
