Giftcard is the carrier of the key duplicate - copy of the main key to the amount in dollars which in fact is stored on the Apple servers. This key the user of card need to assign to the needed account in Apple system. So if the card is not used the keys are not assigned to anyone.

And i'm very sure that when you purchasing iTunes gift card - it will need to be activated first before giving to purchaser hands - for example in UK where i purchased an iTunes gift card for their local iTunes Store - such cards always come with additional receipt of activation confirmation.

If you want to argue with Apple on the issue, by all means go ahead, but unless the package was shipped by the Apple Store themselves and lost in transit before you ever received the cards, you'll almost certainly be wasting your time.

The example of activation above is important - i'm sure that Apple got all information who which cards purchased - so you even don't need to know the serial number of cards - such information is recorded right when you purchasing cards by barcode scanner at cash register (and cards have not usual barcode - but a very special kind of it) and joining with your account in Apple Store or with your credit card at Apple retail.

This terms is like overcompensation - they are usually insuring themselfs from everything, but the fact here is that i'm not purchasing a useless piece of plastic - i'm purchasing an amount of dollars in iTunes. By your and Apple's logic - they are selling just plastic crap, not iTunes dollars - because they considering that if you losing your plastic piece - you are losing your money in iTunes which not even activated or registered there. This is nonsense.

No, no, I understand perfectly. You had iTunes cards and sent them to someone else and they were lost in transit. That makes the loss your responsibility and that of the carrier, not Apple's. Only if Apple was sending you the cards and they were lost in shipment to you would Apple be responsible. Once you received the cards, all responsibility for protecting them transferred to you, and you assume all responsibility for loss just as if you were sending cash.

i'll try to manage this very unusual situation with Apple. And this is not in their interest to not compensate or return my money - which Apple trying to expropriate considering that plastic equal to real money(which is not). I think that this can be bad for their reputation and this definitely can be a court case.

Your opinion are not helping here anyone - you are stuck in the same psychology - iTunes (or any other) gift cards - Are Not Equal to the real money, this is not money, it's just equivalent of the amount of your money which is frozen on special temporary account in Apple company. This is very similar to like you're giving Apple a loan or to hold/store your money for a time until you decide to use them (by activating the card). It is prohibited by law to sell such things which equal to real money - like currencies of other countries, gold bars, postal stamps and etc. without special license.

Very important here is the first step of operation - purchasing the cards by real money - which is registered. On this step you are giving money to Apple for storing them. So, Apple will be able to return all my money even if the cards are lost - because if it won't be able to prove for a court that i activated this cards and use the money which stored in Apple - Apple will be ordered to return everything back to the penny of full amount - no matter what Apple trying to obligate in their terms. Cards is not the product, not the money, not some kind of currency.

(simulation) Please sir/madam, you will need to come to your nearest Apple Store/Support center to fill some papers. Bring the proof of purchase like invoice, statement from your bank and etc. with you. We will deactivate all your purchased gift cards from system and return all money to your credit card.

I have been asked by paypal to buy a $100 iTunes gift card before I can receive my payment that has been sent to me. They said they will accredit my account the $100 buy why would I need to buy a ITunes card?

It would not be paypal customer services that you called it would be a FAKE number pretending to be paypal customer services.

The number shows up when you use 'google' to find paypals number OR a scammer has posted a thread in this forum.

Most times these threads get reported and removed but some slip through.

The scammers post genuine advice but the phone number is in the title or post often in a strange format to get around paypals security.

That is why paypal NEVER post their phone number on this forum.

The only way to get the REAL paypal customer services number is via help / contact bottom left of paypal pages and scrolling down past the FAQ to the 'call us' option to phone them.
