To make a reservation for the Kids 'n' Trains travel program, submit your reservation request form more than 30 days in advance of your requested departure date. Tickets may be purchased at least seven days before departure if the date of travel is approved.

Tickets may be purchased at a staffed Amtrak station no later than seven days prior to your trip or the group reservation is automatically cancelled. Making a Fujikyu Railway reservation2013/9/30 19:54 I will be travelling to Mount Fuji by Fujikyu railway in a couple of weeks, but I won't be able to pinpoint exactly at what time I will take the train, since I'll be coming from the airport.
One option is to arrive at Otsuka station about 20 minutes before the Fujikyu train leaves, but that train requires a seat reservation. My question is, will it be possible to make a seat reservation at the station on such a short notice, or do I have to wait for the next train that doesn't require reservations?

As for Suica, you can't make all the way to Kawaguchiko; You can use it up to Otsuki; in Otsuki you need to exit the barriers and purchase a ticket. No worries, usually plenty of time to do this.by aerondrate this post as useful
Re: Making a Fujikyu Railway reservation2013/10/1 16:49 I did find that there's a local line, but it's less regular. In my case the express is only a 20-minute wait, while the local line is an additional 30 minutes wait.
@NLM, my question wasn't per se how to reserve. I'll manage. The question was if it's usually ok to reserve on such a short notice, or if this line is regularly booked full.

Re: Making a Fujikyu Railway reservation2013/10/1 21:33 Yeah it is confusing at times with the trains in Japan. I still don't understand why when I buy a ticket I am sometimes given two or three tickets for a basic journey from A to B!
But I digress...
i think if you opt for the faster train to Fuji-Q, a conductor will come around on the train and charge you the 300 yen extra. It's been a while since I did that trip. Regardless, as others have said, absolutely no reservations on that line needed.by richinjapanrate this post as useful

Why confusing?
Japanese train ticket system very simple "base fare" and one or some "extra ticket".
base fare ticket(s)[Ԍ] for A to B stn.
extra ticket(s) for the train(Ltd/Exp[}/}s],reserved seat[wȌ],green[O[],sleeper[Q䌔] and more).
base fare ticket(s) validity period makes by distance(route) and can stopover over 101km except some urban areas.
extra ticket(s) validity period one or two days and cannot stopover most.
