What do you think it’ll take to get the SFU VFM contest rolling? I launched it on November 23, but no contestant has entered yet.
Info and entry form are at www.votermedia.org/sfu. I emailed a news release to The Peak and CJSF-FM on Nov 23; no response from them yet that I know of. I also emailed info to SFU professors Bob Hackett (Communication) and Patrick Smith (Poli Sci) with a request to spread the word; and to student senator Kevin Harding (http://soapboxoftwigs.ca is his blog).
Do you think there will be more response:
- when people have had more time to learn about it?
- when there are cash awards in the January contest? (December is a dry run without awards)
- in January because it’s the start of a new semester (students are too busy now preparing for exams and holidays)?
What should we do to publicize the contest?
Who do you think might enter?

Thanks Amy for those ideas! At this early stage, I’d suggest focusing primarily on recruiting media to enter the contest. Once they have entered, they will figure out how to let students know they exist, so as to get votes. A byproduct of that will be getting the word out to other potential media entrants.
Because of the underwhelming response so far, I’m thinking of waiving the planned $10/month entry fee for the first 5 or 10 entrants (for January only). Any views on that?
The news release I sent out (Nov 23) is on the web at www.votermedia.org/sfu/newsrelease.html.
