Using the Hexapod without Gamepad

I think I know the answer to this, but thought I'll ask anyway.

I have recently built the Vorpal Hexapod, from sourcing parts myself, I haven't yet made the gamepad and don't particularly want to use it?

I can get the hexapod to work in the Demo mode without the gamepad, but I want to be able to get it to work automaton from a Sketch with the HC-SR04 and may be other sensors later.

I assuming a separate Arduino sketch would need to be written, and download it to the Hexapod Nano?
