How to Install SolidWorks 2020 on Your Computer
SolidWorks is a powerful 3D CAD software that helps you design, simulate, and manufacture various products. If you want to install SolidWorks 2020 on your computer, you have several options to choose from. In this article, we will guide you through the steps of installing SolidWorks 2020 using different methods.
Downloading from the SolidWorks Customer Portal
This is the easiest and most convenient way to get the latest version of SolidWorks. All you need is a working internet connection and a subscription service account with login access to the Customer Portal site. Here are the steps to follow:
- Browse to the SolidWorks Customer Portal.
- Log in as a Subscription Service Customer, using your email address and password, or your SolidWorks serial number.
- In the Download section, click Downloads and Updates.
- In the Downloads page, for Select Version, select 2020.
- Select the SolidWorks tab for SolidWorks products and under Product, select a service pack.
- Click Accept Agreement and Continue in the EULA page.
- Click Download. The SolidWorks Installation Manager will start downloading the installation files.
Using a Download Directory on a Server
If you have already downloaded the installation files to a server directory, you can use this method to install SolidWorks 2020 on your computer. The download directory must be accessible from your computer and must contain all of the SolidWorks installation files before installation can begin. Here are the steps to follow:
- In the download directory, double-click setup.exe. The SolidWorks Installation Manager will launch.
- Enter your SolidWorks serial number and click Next.
- Select Individual (on this computer) and click Next.
- Select the products you want to install and click Next.
- Review the summary of your installation settings and click Install Now or Download and Install.
Updating an Existing SolidWorks Installation Using Check for Updates
If you already have a previous version of SolidWorks installed on your computer, you can use this method to update it to SolidWorks 2020. You need a working internet connection and administrator privileges on your machine. Here are the steps to follow:
- Do one of the following:
- In SolidWorks, click Help > Check for Updates.
- In Windows, click Start > All Programs > SolidWorks Installation Manager > Check for Updates.
- The SolidWorks Installation Manager will check for available updates and show you a list of products that can be updated.
- Select the products you want to update and click Next.
- Review the summary of your update settings and click Update Now or Download and Update.
Troubleshooting Installation Issues
Sometimes, you may encounter some issues or errors during the installation process. Here are some common problems and solutions:
- If you get a message that says "The Installation Manager was unable to determine the current subscription expiration date. Would you like to reactivate your license to update this information?", click Yes and follow the instructions to reactivate your license online.
- If you get a message that says "A later version of Bonjour is already installed on this computer", click OK and continue with the installation. Bonjour is a required component for SolidWorks and it will not affect your existing version.
- If you get a message that says "Could not connect to the SolidWorks server to determine which products you are entitled to install", check your internet connection and firewall settings. You may need to allow access to the following domains: *.solidworks.com, *.sldim.com, and *.3ds.com.
- If you get a message that says "Some files are missing from the installation image", check the download directory and make sure it contains all of the installation files. You can also use the SolidWorks Installation Manager to find missing files if you have internet access and write access to the download directory.
Activating and Registering SolidWorks 2020
After you install SolidWorks 2020, you need to activate and register it to use all of its features. Activation verifies your license and registration gives you access to technical support and other benefits. Here are the steps to follow:
- Start SolidWorks 2020. If you are prompted to activate, click Yes.
- Select Automatically over the Internet (recommended) and click Next.
- Enter your email address and click Next.
- Review the information and click Next.
- Click Finish when the activation is complete.
- To register SolidWorks 2020, click Help > Register My Products.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the registration process.
