Hi Alexandru,

I am curious if you are working on a new version of Vorax? If so, have you thought about using the new sqlcl instead of sqlplus?

Best regards,

Mathias

Hi Mathias,

Interesting idea. I haven't thought about this and I haven't played that much with sqlcl...
Thanks for this suggestion. I'll definitely have a look.

Hi Alec,

I think Sqlcl has some nice new features like aliases, repeating and so on, plus it's easy to extend with your own scripts. I also think it's fully compatible to sqlplus. So everything that worked before in sqlplus should work in sqlcl too. A good thing is that the connection drivers are already included and the only thing you need to do is to download it and have java 1.8 installed and you are ready to go. So there is no need to install an oracle client anymore, which can be really hard on some distros.

Best regards,

Mathias

Hi Mathias,

Apparently, sqlcl is not fully compatible with sqlplus (see below):

SQL*Plus List of Unsupported Commands and Features

Commands
 REPHEADER
 REPFOOTER

System Variables and Environment Settings via the SET Command
autoprint
autorecovery
cmdsep
copytypecheck
!!describe
eschar
flagger
flush
fullcolname
logsource
loboffset
!!markup
recsep
recsepchar
shiftinout
sqlcase
!!sqlprefix
sqlterminator
tab
underline
xmloptimizationcheck

I've ">>" prefixed above the options I use in Vorax. On the other hand, sqlcl seems to have many nice/interesting builtin features which might save a lot of coding on the Vorax side (e.g. sqlformat)... Sqlcl sounds to be a good match for Vorax5.

Cheers,
Alec

Hi,

I thought I read that somewhere, but that doesn't mean it's true... maybe I mixed it up with the sqldeveloper compatibility as sqlcl is just sqldeveloper with a cli.
Can you maybe tell me when there will be a alpha or beta version to test of Vorax 5?

regards,

Mathias

Hello,

I haven't started yet to work on Vorax5, so I assume it will take awhile until the first alpha will be available for testing...

Perhaps a vim plugin could be added to sqldeveloper. The intellij vim plugin is the best adaptation I have encountered.
