I received the following email from Mayor Nicolaides (Village of Munsey Park) concerning a rash of recent robberies.  

Please exercise prudence when it comes to keeping yourselves and your neighbors safe.  Go back to basics, such as:

- remove obvious items of value from your car when parked (GPS, iPods etc)

- lock the doors to your home and your vehicles

- don't leave credit cards or even credit card receipts in your vehicles

- close the door to your garage, even when you're home

- use a cross-shredder to shred any identifying data, including credit card receipts

- if you see a car in the neighborhood that you don't recognize, call 911; the police would rather investigate and find nothing than after it was too late

- if you go away, follow the instructions sent in the letter from the Sixth Precinct that I just mailed to the village, and definitely use the 'buddy system' with a neighbor

I just got off with the 6^th precinct. This rash – 9 cars were hit last night all within a few blocks off each other including homes in Plandome, Munsey Park and Flower Hill. They concluded their car break ins by stealing a $70,000 car that had the keys in it .

The gist of my conversation is that we are a “target rich environment” .We have valuables left in plain site in cars, many that are left unlocked. I was assured that the police will step up patrolling the area, but we need to get to our residents, both to not leave valuables in their cars but to also keep an eye out for any unusual activity. I stopped by my house yesterday afternoon. As I was leaving, I saw a guy in an old car sitting across the street, just sitting there, looking at my home and my neighbors. I happen to see a police car a few blocks from my house and sent the officer to check him out.

Just spent this beautiful morning with American Express, the Manhasset 6th precinct and several other friends I didn't expect to spend the morning with!

Last night I had a bag from my favorite boutique "Sabrina" stolen from my car.  Talk about getting busted for shopping during a recession!!!  As soon as Patrick is cleared from being a suspect for making the return, the police report will be official.

Here's what I want to share with everyone:

The police told me that MANY CARS IN MUNSEY PARK WERE BURGLARIZED LAST NIGHT.  THERE IS A FAMILY THAT THINKS THE SUSPECTS MAY HAVE BEEN CAUGHT ON A HOME SURVEILLANCE TAPE. This is good news!!  Please keep all car doors (and homes, of course) locked.  This group has been making appearances all over Manhasset!  I think they suspect teenagers.  Be on the lookout for unusual cars or kids you do not recognize hanging around your block.

I was lucky...who knows what this group is capable of stealing or doing when they approach your home.  Please be vigilant and PASS THIS EMAIL ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY SAFE!!!!!!!!!!

The police are concerned that they are tracking CREDIT CARD #s with receipts they are finding in your cars.

If I see any of you wearing a silk turquoise Milly top I will rip it off your back and I will call the police and I will prosecute!!!!!!!!!!!!!
