Argh, help!

My manager has noticed me using voo2do and thinks it's the best thing
in the world. Trouble is, we work on several projects together and
she wants us to be able to see and edit each other's notes.

I'm reluctant to just share passwords, not least because...well, I
want it to be very clear who's adding a note to what. I'm quite
protective of my own voo2do account because I RUN MY LIFE FROM IT
right now ;)

I noticed that there were plans to develop editable shared pages; is
there any timeframe for this? I'm really reluctant to have voo2do for
my tasks and a different to-do software for shared ones. If anyone
can think of a way round this in the mean time, I'd be really grateful
for suggestions!

Thanks,

Anna

Anna,

Wow, it's great to hear that you've started a little Voo2do craze in the office!

I'm actively working on Voo2do right now, and expect to have
significantly improved collaboration support launched in January. It
will be designed to keep track of who does what to each task, so
you'll be able to see who has made any change -- from adding,
completing, or taking ownership of a task, to adjusting the timing or
adding a note.

This enhanced collaboration support will be a premium feature, meaning
that it will be available for a monthly fee (with a 30 day free
trial). I have not yet decided on exact pricing -- there will
probably be packages for different numbers of users. Any feedback on
pricing is most welcome, as I want to earn your business by providing
a service that makes your team more productive!

For anyone who is interested in using Voo2do for group collaboration,
I will soon be seeking out teams to discuss the exact feature set and
participate in a beta test of improved collaborative features. Teams
who participate in the beta will receive 3 free months of premium
service, but more importantly, will help to shape Voo2do into a better
product. If you're interested in participating in this beta test,
please email support@voo2do with the subject "beta". I'd also love to
talk with anyone about how their group might function better with the
right collaboration software, so feel free to include a telephone
number or call me at 617-600-4423.

Now Anna -- to your particular situation -- I'm afraid there isn't a
perfect immediate solution. One thing you could do is create a new
Voo2do account for the office, and move just the office tasks into
that account while leaving your personal tasks in your existing
account. You'd then give everyone access to the office account, and
just hope that people are polite about making edits to tasks and
notes. This is suboptimal, but I'm working on it.

Hope that helps!

Oh noes. I work in the NHS - there is NO FREAKING WAY they'll pay for
the premium feature. Looks like the office account for all is
necessary!

Thanks for the response, anyhoo.

I'm playing with the Beta today (awesome so far!) and would second
this request for an expansion of the collaboration feature.

Let me share a little about how we work:

I run a web design shop and we have two people in house that use
Voo2do. We have a shared task list that we use a collaborative
context to assign tasks to one or the other of us. We just a started
using this context however and used to have 1 big tasks list (which
worked but I prefer seeing who is responsible for what)

What we need is a way to assign tasks to external sub-contractors
(developers) for specific projects/tasks. Send them an invite or just
setup their user account and allow them to login and view their tasks.

Their access would be restricted to just the project and task assigned
to them however we'd (as admins) would need to see their tasks and
progress as well.

One other side-feature of this would be a way to break down the time
tracking into instances. So if I work on Task A on Monday and again
on Tuesday, I'd like a way to see two time entries so I know that my
developer worked on that task on those two days (helps me keep
everyone honest). Not really related to collaboration but someting I
had though of in general for the time tracking feature and recurring
tasks. Recently I had a task with time on it (3 hours) but didn't
know when that time was amassed, whether it was in 1 lump or several.
I'm rambling so I'll stop now.

FYI, I'd love to be part of the beta team to test this feature and
others in the future.

Thanks Shimon.

Thanks for the detailed information, Josiah. This sort of "how we do it" story is especially helpful in designing new features, and I really appreciate your excitement about trying future changes! Once this version has completed beta testing, I expect changes to be deployed much more frequently, and I hope to respond more quickly to feedback and suggestions.

Here's what's up next in the Voo2do roadmap after this beta:
- premium version for individuals, featuring detailed time tracking (e.g. you can see when time was added to the task)
- improved collaboration support for teams, in both free and premium flavors

As always, suggestions and bug reports are welcome, and this list is where I'll post the first round of announcements and requests for feedback.
