Description:
E&FCA was established in 2023 after the director, through teaching marine science to area residents and visitors to the Emerald Coast, was asked to expand the program and offer it to schools. The nonprofit focuses on taking area students into the field to learn marine science at the rare coastal dune lakes in Walton/Bay County Florida, seagrass beds, and the nearshore Gulf of Mexico at no cost to the schools. These shore based trips will allow area students from K-12 to have hands-on experience sampling, identifying, and learning about the ecology of these precious resources. For the 2024-2025 school year E&FCA has over 1,600 students from 9 area schools embarking on exciting field adventures. Our goal is to take out 10% of the area student population into the field every year (7,000). E&FCA has achieved all the necessary permits, authorizations, and approvals by excited District administrators in Bay and Walton counties.
