Hi,

would somebody mind shedding some light on this:

- VoltDB cluster with data capacity level X
- suddenly unexpected inflow of data
- cluster reaches X limit

What is the best practice approach for dealing with this?
- a. design system so it adds dynamically more VOLTDB nodes in the cloud?
- b. Not sure, but can VoltDB read from disk in case of memory hit mis?
- c. ?

Best
Frank

Allow me to extend my original question and sum it up as following:

Q:  Can the amount of data that VoltDB is managing exceed the amount of RAM allocated by a VOLT DB cluster ?

Thanks
Frank

Hi Frank,

No, the data footprint cannot span the amount of memory available in the cluster.  We provide a description here, https://docs.voltdb.com/PlanningGuide/ChapMemoryRecs.php, and also the VoltDB Management Center offers an interactive sizing worksheet (based on the database schema).

Can you tell me the type of application you are building?

Also, these are great questions for our online forums, https://forum.voltdb.com/forum.php

John
