Volly@Villages - New rules and other logistics.

All,

We (Rajiv Ranjan, Rajiv Kumar, Shiv, Kunjan, Manojit, Ashish and I) met after the game last Saturday and agreed to following rules which group must follow. This is to make sure we all are on court on time.

1. Everyone in this list is by default agreeing to these rules below. If you don't and want to be removed from the DL, please reply to this email by COB today (07/15). Avinash - Please clean up the list with the requests. We only want people in the list who are 100% committed
2. We will not send an email for the game. The game is ON by default unless an email stating that the game is called off is sent out
3. The game will start sharp at 8:15 AM each Saturday. Any late comers will pay a fine of $1 for each 5 minute late with a maximum of $10 (in-case you don't show up). Just to let you know that we will be strictly enforcing this rule. People who live around the court need to be present in the court by 8:15 AM.
4. If for some reason you can't make it to the game, please send a note in advance (by Friday COB) so people are aware of it.
5. If you are on vacation for few weeks, please let the group know your ETA return date (right now Manish and Sashikant are in India with Shashi returning back this weekend)


Amit, Sunil Sharma and others, we would like you to be part of the team but for any reason you want to bail, we respect your decision. Please let the group know ASAP so we will not bother you anymore. Bhupal - We already counted you in the team.

On the financial side, I received additional $10 each from Ashish, Rajiv Ranjan, Manish and Shiv and added my $10. So total I have $50 with me. Out of which, I got $25 for the boundary rope and hooks I purchased couple months back so we still have $25 left in the account.

Avinash - Do you have any money left from previous collection? If you do, please give it to me so I can consolidate the accounts. On Saturday, please bring your portion of $10 so we have some spare money in the pool.

Lastly, if we want to play on Friday PM, it has to be in Villages@cupertino court as the court at SYMC will be taken over by other folks due to Volleyball League going on here. We can resume Friday game at SYMC when the league is done. So if we want to play today, let the group know as who else can come. Rajiv and I can join.

Good that you all are trying to get it more organized. I have $10 left from previous fund'll give you that or transfer online. Can you open a new sheet in the xls to keep track of new funds?

We should have strict rule for timing. But a fine might be too harsh, especially for new members. We should relax it for new members, at least.

Contribution of $10 is also voluntary. We didn't collect it from all last time too. There were many people who played 4-5 games and we didn't force on contribution. I think we can continue with that. Its more of a fun league than pro.

Most of the pro members inform if they are not coming. Good that we have made a rule on this. I can generally play on Friday evenings but 'll come alternately or no on Saturdays.

Finally, we can have a game today. Please RSVP and commit to show up by 5:00PM. Divakar's team is also planning at 6:00PM at villages. They are short on players. Let me count who all are in for today and I'll co-ordinate with him.

Most of the players have dropped due to personal reasons. But your concern is absolutely valid. We always wanted to make a team where everyone plays. The two touch rule was introduced for this very reason. The best way to resolve this concern is to graduate to three touch. Also the three touches should be from three different players. 

When I am at setter position I always set for third but when I am at spike position I never get 3rd one. The same happens with others too and I too do some mistakes only to realize it later. Also many times the one who takes first ball takes third after setting. If we have the rule of three touches with three different players we will be better off.

Its easy to decide who gets first, second and third. In an indoor court a field is 9m each side. There is a line at 3m from net which is called attack line. The spikers and setter stay in attack line. First touch should be by one of three players beyond attack line. Second should be from setter and third should be from spikers. If we can have such control there won't be any conflict. If we can't have so precise control we should still have 3 touches by 3 different players.

I agree, the 12 players is what we need. 20 is too much and the rule of $1 late fee will bring to final regular member list I think. We are putting too much on the game that is supposed to be fun for couple of hours.

Lets stop the thread here, let non-active member be there and get count on who is going to come. They need to consider they are regular else may have to wait if we reach the count of 12 on ground. This will motivate people to be regular.

I was in court at 8:14AM and Manoj left at 8:30. I left at 9AM without play and felt very bad. I will not come further game untill we will have suffucient player in court.

I agree . I went early and was there until ~ 8.15  and I saw none and called several people and I only got back response from Manoj so I  told him  there were not enough players and I'm going back .

Amit reached  @ 8.37 am and called me and saw no player and went back.

 

So if I would have stayed for an hour then we would have managed 4 players today over 1 hour interval.

We need to add more   players and we need to be more responsive.  I have talked  to couple of  folks  in apt complex  and let's double number of players and first 12 players get to play first.

I know of at least couple of players who left the team out of frustration and still some of us don't understand.  Emphasis should be on fair and respectful game rather than in winning. Let's follow it from now on.
