The producers derived the title from lines of the song "Mera Joota Hai Japani" from Shree 420 (1955). Directed by Aziz Mirza, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, and focuses on the TV media wars. Ajay Bakshi and Ria Banerjee are two television reporters for rival news channels KTV and Galaxy TV who try to save the life of a man who has been fixed by politicians for the death of his brother, from a death sentence.

Kavita was raped and killed by Madanlal, who was the brother-in-law of Ramakant Dua, a powerful minister. Mohan tried to get justice for his daughter, but no one helped him. He decided to take revenge by killing Madanlal.
Ajay and Ria realize that Mohan is innocent and decide to help him. They also expose Ramakant's corruption and involvement in the murder.
