Desktop flows broaden the existing robotic process automation (RPA) capabilities in Power Automate and enable you to automate all repetitive desktop processes. Automating is quicker and easier than ever with the new intuitive Power Automate desktop flow designer using the prebuilt drag-and-drop actions or recording your own desktop flows to run later.
If you're a home user who is accessing a weather website to see tomorrow's forecast or a self-employed businessperson extracting information from vendors' invoices or even an employee of a large enterprise who automates data entry on an ERP system, Power Automate is designed for you.
It allows you to automate both legacy applications, such as terminal emulators, modern web and desktop applications, Excel files, and folders. You can interact with the machine using application UI elements, images, or coordinates.
You can build fantastic desktop apps!!! I have build an CRM solution. When you start to build, select "app for tablet" and then set the sreen solution for example 1980 * 1080 pixels. Powerapps is excellent for desktop apps! See pic.

Late to this conversation but I'm also looking to build canvas apps that work (and look good) on a desktop screen as opposed to a tablet. Offline isn't a problem in our instance as we're connecting to Dataverse and Power Automate so we need the online aspect. With your attached picture, when you set the default resolution, does that mean it takes up all the screen real estate when running? I need to get as much data on a single screen in a logical fashion as possible.

You can adjust the settings to the app will fill up the entire screen - I do this all the time. First thing is make sure you start with a Tablet app ( not phone) when you create a new app. After you have created your tablet app, When you are in Make.PowerApps.Com, just select File>Settings> Then Select Display. You can then select Custom from the second dropdown (Size) in the middle of the screen and set it to whatever dimensions you want - say 1900 Pixels wide by 800 Pixels high . This sets the size of the canvas for all screen within the app... Just adjust as needed.
