Many thanks for reading this post, with luck someone can help me :)

I'm trying to track down an open source alternative to software such
as Ventrillo and TeamSpeak which allow group, voice based
communication based around a server/client architecture in order to
manage different chat rooms. If anyone knows of such an open source
solution I would be most obliged if you could point me in the right
direction.

It may be overkill, but Asterisk can handle conferences using the
meetme application.
I wrote a control panel for meetme a long time ago. It's located here:

I'll have to look into that as it seems a bit complex for my
purposes.
