I've seen this issue raised in a post from last year, but it's currently still happening. My settings are to poll every ten minutes. When I get an SMS, (I think this only happens with multipart messages) I will keep getting notifications every poll cycle indefinitely.

To add a bit more detail, for example: I got an sms yesterday with two parts. The second part message has been pushing to my notifications every ten minutes since yesterday. The multipart message has been marked as read. I ended up disabling notifications from the app entirely.

I'm not sure what might be causing this issue for you. I've not seen it occur on my device, though to be fair, I don't actually use the SMS feature on my own app any longer.

This might see like a very WEIRD recommendation, but you should have a look at an app called "VoIP.ms SMS", which is published by someone who has NOTHING to do with me. However, his app (which deals STRICTLY with SMS from VoIP.ms) is so damned good, that I much prefer using it than I do my own app. He's found a way to support push notifications so it isn't necessary to "poll" for messages.

If I wan't so deeply involved in another project, which is consuming ALL of my time, I would consider re-writing the SMS functions of my app.

So as I noted, it's rather unorthodox for me to recommend using a competitor's app for SMS, but my lack of time and the overall excellence of his app make it this the best advice I can give you.

I found Voip.ms SMS was never reliable when it came to push notification, messages came in but I was not notified and if I launched the app I would see new/unread;  If I didn't launch the app I would never receive them;  I do however highly recommend Voip.ms Messenger Free.  It supports multiple DID's, push notification, it keeps track of conversations (which DID was used for each convo), etc,.  Personally it performs much better on my devices than the other ones.  I always get push notifications.  My only gripe is the layout/UI looks weird when you first use it (messages are top down instead of the usual way).

VoIP.ms SMS really has an awesome UI though, it integrates contact pictures, it has a search function for finding info in conversations.  Real shame it didn't work for me.  You should definitely give it a try and if it doesn't work for you either troubleshoot with the author or check out Voip.ms Messenger Free.  I use VoIP.ms Console strictly for configuration, since it uses sync/lookups for new messages.  Where as the other apps messenger use push notification, which is less data and closer to real-time responses.

That's strange, because both my wife and I use it on our devices (a Galaxy S4 in the case of my wife, and a Galaxy S7 in my case). I've yet to miss an incoming SMS with this app. That doesn't meant it won't have a problem on non-Samsung devices, so your experience might not be unusual. It isn't my app, and so I only have experience on my Samsung devices.

All, I want to thank you for the recommendations. Steve, I appreciate the tip and man, I hope you do re-write the SMS portion at some point, because I love your app for everything except texting. I've tried both and I'm swapping back and forth until I decide on one. But really appreciate the recommendation for a competing product!
