How To Add Brushes In Adobe Animate

HiI believe the paint brush tool in adobe animate is either broken or has a severely bad intended UI. I have spent 1+ days trying to get it to work to no avail, and I have found articles showing that the code is "Deprecated". Basically, I go to to the brush library to add custom brushes to paint with. I double click to add to document, however, the brush is never active -- my output when I draw is always the same dynamic brush, and I have no otpion to use any custom brushes. I go into the properties tool for the brush or the dynamic brush and it never gives me stroke options or style options. What do I do!? You'll notice that even though double I clicked on "Caligraphy 1" to add it to the document, I still got a normal dynamic brush, and, I have no actual options anywhere that I can find to actually change the stroke options or the brush style. When I click on fluid brush in the top right too nothing happens. I'm so confused and beyond frustrated. Need help.

I'm actually having the same problem. My lines when I draw are very pixelated and I can't seem to change the brush settings to smooth it nor change it to a custom brush. I added a picture below of my screen. I have the smoothing to 100 and Im using the brush tool but it doesn't change anything. Can someone help?


The Fluid brush and Classic brush are fill based brush tools. The brushes available in Brush Library (Art and Pattern brushes) works on the stroke. Please use a Paint Brush tool to draw with the brushes available in Brush Library.


Here's the video of the problem I'm having. I still have the problem regardless if I use the painttool brush or the classic brush. No matter what I do, the brush stroke stays the same and it's pixalated. It's still doesn't smooth and I can't use any of the brushes in the library. I'm not sure what to do.


Hi - from the video i could see that the seelcted Brush is not getting seelcted as a Stroke Style in Properties panel when Paint Brush is used. Have you double clicked the brush in Brush Library? Also can you please check whether the brush is getting listed in the stroke style drop down in PI?


ok I was able to use the different brushes. thank you! as for my other question, in the video, the smoothing is not working? I don't know if that's how it's suppose to look like or if it's pixelated? Is there a way I can tell?


In the bottom left of the tools is a three dots button. That lets you load in other tools that are not showing at the moment. I think that by default two of the brush types are showing, but you may be looking for the third brush type. See this screenshot to see if it helps.


Hi - Classic Brush is a fill based brush and it doesnt draw strokes. If you are looking at dawing strokes then use Paint Brush tool which you can drag and drop from the Edit tool bar to main tool bar as described by Colin in the above thread.


I need animation from brush to brush, not color to color. And best option is Abstract brush type, which includes SolidColor, LinearGradient etc, so I can animate for example from SolidColorBrush to LinearGradientBrush. Is that even possible? Thank you.


Another possible way is, to create a custom animtion class that animate brushes.I found a simple way to do that by creating a class, derivated from AnimationTimeline. We can override some members in the custom class, among other things the AnimationTimeline.GetCurrentValue method. It returns a value depend on the animation progress and the start- and end value.


So I gave it a go with this, made the animated brush tips, and they work, but do not save as a new brush. The brush seems to be blank ( Icon still shows, but nothing is there on properties, and defaults ot previous last brush used ) I like the feature, but I may have to do a work around of using the brush tip, then reloading original.


hello thank you for the reply, the brush on the left isnt animated. It is a single item.

The animated brush works, but since this morning, none of my brushes save. or will let me create a working new saved version without corrupting the brush.

But as it is, it doesnt matter if it is animated or not. Or, a single brush tip.

A short while ago, I recreate a brush exactly like one I have saved from yesterday. and it failed to save correctly.

I am thinking now, something in my linux update today has caused something to corrupt or stop working but not sure what to do.


Having said that - From testing, It seems like this is occurring in the pixel engine, but if you make a colour-smudge preset the sequence should render correctly. That does seem to point to an anomaly in the pixel engine, so maybe what your theory is correct?


Please pay extra attention to the animated colorsmudge brushes (do they exist actually?). The patch changes their behavior a little bit. Before the patch the first painted dab of the colorsmudge brush was the first dab of the brush. Now the first painted dab is actually the second dab of the brush. It happens because the first dab of the brush is actually used for reading a portion of data for the effect of smearing and not used for painting, i.e. colorsmudge brush actually skips painting of the first dab of any stroke.


On that branch, the Pixel, Color Smudge, Tangent Normal, and Filter engines all appear to behave the same (correct) way with the sequenced brushtip, with the exception of Color Smudge not painting the first dab, as was mentioned.


To make a framework element fade in and out of view, you can animate its Opacity property or you can animate the Opacity property of the Brush (or brushes) used to paint it. Animating the element's opacity makes it and its children fade in and out of view, but animating the brush used to paint the element enables you to be more selective about which portion of the element fades. For example, you could animate the opacity of a brush used to paint a button's background. This would cause the button's background to fade in and out of view, while leaving its text fully opaque.


In the following example, two buttons are animated so that they fade in and out of view. The Opacity of the first Button is animated from 1.0 to 0.0 over a Duration of five seconds. The second button is also animated, but the Opacity of the SolidColorBrush used to paint its Background is animated rather than the opacity of the entire button. When the example is run, the first button completely fades in and out of view, while only the background of the second button fades in and out of view. Its text and border remain fully opaque.
