Hello
My name is Eleanor Roberts. I am totally blind and am based in the UK. I was told about VoiceVista at a sight loss exhibition I attended earlier in July, and it came highly recommended by the people who told me about it. I should stress at this point that the people who told me about it were members of the. Public/sight loss community, not anything to do with the developers etc.
I downloaded the app on Friday and I just wanted to e-mail to say how wonderful I am finding it!!!!!! I have used many satnavs supposedly aimed at blind people over the years - both stand-alone and phone apps -, and this one literally is the best one I have ever come across! I love the fact you can add as many markers as you want, and that, once added, these markers can then be adjusted by sighted friends to ensure that they are in exactly the right place on the map for you. I also love the fact that, as I walk, every intersection is clearly announced, as well as which side it is on (left or right). As A Guide Dog Owner I love walking for miles and, more often than not, do not want to stick to specific routes, and would much rather just go exploring. So having every intersection announced as I approach it gives me the autonomy to decide where I want to go/which streets I want to take, as opposed to having to stick to a set pathway/route, which is wonderful!
As I said at the start of this message, this literally is the best satnav for blind people I have encountered, and it has so so much potential to succeed for many many years and decades to come. So please, please learn from other companies who have not taken care of their satnav devices/apps as they should, and keep the VoiceVista app regularly and fully updated so that it has the ability to run accurately long into the distant future.
Thank you so much for producing this wonderful app.
Eleanor
