Hi folks...

  Here I went and invited you all to this Google Group for voice actors, then let it languish.

I hope this finds you well...prosperous...and that you had your flu shot recently  ;-}

I'm as busy as ever, but not making as much progress on voiceacting as I would've hoped by now.  Sometimes I feel stymied by things...then I realize how far I've come, and how much ground I've covered, and I'm buoyed up.  'Just impatient, I guess.  But more than that, I'm stubborn.  So there's absolutely no chance I'll be out off your radar in this lifetime.

The Yahoo group forum has had some luscious discussions going on...VO headshots, FiCore, Royalty-Free music...and more. Of course, VO-BB is always "home" for almost any and all discussions.  When I first fired up this Google Group, I got an almost discouraging e-mail from Julie Williams to the effect of:  "...there are already enough forums and groups like this for voice-actors.  Why start another one."?  I think there's always room for more...

I gotta admit, though, I'm not going to be inviting Steve Hammill to this group.... he just seems like a lightning rod for dissent, disagreement and trouble on the Yahoo forum...  but I could have the wrong impression.

I'm gearing up my blog to include more interviews with movers and shakers in the business, and I'm finally close to publishing another newsletter (last one was in December. '08!!!!).

I've noticed a slight drop-off on visitors to the blog...Bob is that your experience too....or are you just humming along?  I just figure everybody's busy, trying to make up for the tight economy.

Any and all thoughts and responses welcome here.  I'm going to be doing some promo'ing and marketing to drive some more Voice-actors to this Group.

Best to you and yours!

CourVO,

You are the essence of the way this biz should be. Those of us deeply involved in the VO community know the importance of connection and common experience, and the ultimate truth of the phrase, “giving back.” Some reading this are mere neophytes in our young industry. They are looking for hope and inspiration to carry forward with their dreams. You and I have been where they think they want to be; in front of the public.  Fact is, that’s not what we do in the Voice Acting biz. We are artists. Faceless ones. The only true recognition we get is from our peers.  That’s why community is important.

We are also independent business people with bills to pay and business to find.  The way to survive this is with knowledge and the improvement of our skills. Sharing our common experiences with those who thirst to know is a healthy thing that should be encouraged. We are not competition. We are colleagues. We are all unique. It’s better to have as many places to drink from the fountain of knowledge as we can. It is better to improve our industry from the strength of its core. What’s good for the beginner, benefits us all.

I’m glad there’s good guys like you and Bob and a bunch of other people we know who think the same and counter the Steve Hamill’s out there. I love what I do, where I do it and the rewards years of hard work have brought me. Being an independent business person has been my life’s dream (Along with a few other things).  Your forum and blog are fresh and honest, and, we all need a dose of reality to keep us motivated.

Keep it up!

Dan L.  :-3)
