Hello,

In the old RCP application everything was a extension hence it was
infinity extensible, i mean in terms of UI, adding
menus, views ,editors, perspective etc could be done by just adding a
plugin with those extensions.

But in E4 the application UI is already decided at the application
model and any addition in terms of UI in the form of new plugins will
require model access and modification. Does this not restrict
extensibility.

For example if i build a product of E4 RCP and give it to my client.
He has some inbuild applications which he wants to be added to this
product, hence he adds all those plugins and does the necessary
modifications in the model either at runtime or at compile time.

Now i have a new release with many modifications to the model. How will
the client merge his changes into this new build.

Earlier there were no issues of the above kind because each plugin
decided all the UI elements.

Can you please clarify this.

Hi,

you can use processors to add model elements to an arbitrary model.

For static contribution where is bug report https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=324954 to make this more flexible.

Best regards, Lars
