BOSSTuner is one of the more versatile guitar tuner apps. It supports the usual array of instruments, including guitar, bass, ukulele, and others. The app also works for other instruments like violin, cello, and even some brass instruments. It features a decent, simple interface, multiple tunings, and audible reference pitches. There is also news about BOSS products if you care about that stuff. The app is completely free with no in-app purchases.

CarlTune is a multi-instrument tuner. It works for guitar, violin, viola, flute, cello, bass guitar, ukulele, saxophone, guitalele, mandolin, gayageum, and a few others. That makes it a great option for guitarists who also have some extra instruments on the side. This one includes a colorful, but functional UI with the frequency, octave, note, and more information for effective tuning. Additionally, you can use custom tuning settings and there are some other customizations for musicians. This one is free with advertising or $2.49 for the ad-free version. It works well and it looks good.

The android app has improved performance and accuracy. High quality samples of real instruments are also included (i.e. tune by ear if preferred!). A massive library of different tunings for guitar, bass, balalaika, violin, ukulele and more makes it easy to find more qualities and characteristics from your instrument.

On Google Play it is hard to find the best guitar tuner app that makes you satisfied due to the great amount of apps to choose from. There are a couple that is pretty good but most of the apps are poorly developed. With ProGuitar Tuner we try to do the little extra to make guitar tuning more accurate and fun.

We do listen to our users requests and update the app continuously until most of our users give it a five star rating. Our goal is to be the best and the most popular guitar tuner app for the professional and the beginner.

ProGuitar Tuner is the optimal tool for guitar intonation and is used by professional guitar makers, guitar repair shops and musicians. The app uses an algorithm that detects the fundamental frequency in the same way our ears and brain sum up all harmonic and inharmonic overtones.

The Android app uses the built in microphone of your device to help you tune your guitar. You can download the app for both Android and iOS, or you can use the Online Guitar Tuner in your web browser.

Many other guitar tuners will only show you the standard tuning, that is; E, A, D, G, B, e. These tuners may also just look for pitches in a certain range corresponding to each string and might not notice if you play a too high or low pitch.

The Guitar Tuner tells you with professional accuracy, on the cent, if your instrument is in tune or not. This is why many professional luthiers and guitar repair shops use the tuner to intonate their guitars.

Figure 1What you see in the GUI. 1 - tuning in cents, 2 - A red or green lightindicating if you are in tune to the pith shown, 3 - a notewheel indicating where the current pitch is located, 4 - A fretboard with the current tuning setting

When we measure how far apart 2 pitches are, we use cents. The distance between two pitches that is a half step apart is divided by 100, giving us a distance of 1/100 for every half step. This is the professional accuracy you get when you use the ProGuitar Tuner.

You can choose many different instruments in the Android App, such as a 12 string guitar, a ukulele, a bass or a banjo. The preset is a 6 string guitar in standard tuning. You can change both instrument and tuning under settings.

Each string will light up in red or green depending on if you are on pitch or not. A small arrow indicates if you need to raise or lower the pitch of the string to get to the desired pitch for your tuning.

If you click on the white area to the left of the strings you can change settings for what kind of instrument you want to tune (standard guitar is the preset) and what kind of tuning you want (standard guitar tuning is the preset).

I have been playing guitar for a number of years now and have always relied on two guitar tuners in total. One is built into my Line 6 Spider guitar amplifier, while the other one is a Korg GA-30 tuner. Yes, the latter is pretty old and I got mine in 2008. It still works!

But, times are changing. Our phones and tablets now have excellent microphones, meaning it was time for me to ditch the Korg tuner in favor of an app because why not! So, like any other average person I searched for 'guitar tuner' on the App Store and GuitarTuna popped up. It had high ratings, good reviews, so naturally I downloaded it. And since I started using it, I've never touched the Korg tuner again.

I'm not going to deep-dive into how the app works but only tell you that the 'tuner' part of this app works absolutely flawlessly every single time. Never ever I had the moment where I felt the app was going to give up on me. And it's super accurate, thanks to the great microphones that now ship with our phones.

There are two ways you can tune your guitar using the app - manual and auto. By default, it's set to auto and it just detects the tone of the string and you can match it up with the graphic on your phone's screen. In manual mode, you select each string manually and tune it up. I would suggest doing things in full auto as it makes everything pretty easy. But it's your choice how you want to navigate the water.

If you are a beginner, there's a built-in chord library and a metronome in this app as well. It's super easy to navigate and you will be playing everyone's favorite song Wonderwall in no time. But seriously, don't be that guy at parties.

The app jumps straight into the tuner every single time you launch the app. You don't have to press an extra button or anything. It's ready every time. That's something I can't say about a lot of apps.

This app will work inline with the Peterson website and does NOT launch independently.

Sweetened Tunings take advantage of the extreme accuracy of the strobe tuning method and are calculated to adjust for the physical properties of each instrument allowing for chords to sound more in tune over the entire instrument.

Because most tuners can't 'see' better than +/- 1 cent, they can only offer one bland inconsistent flavor of tuning. The high-definition tuning resolution strobe tuners provide allow for a totally different tuning experience. Many of our tuners are loaded with presets that see a particular tuning as a group of notes (not just individual pitches). A Peterson can therefore optimize the notes within these groups to be much more consonant with one another and pleasing to the ear; in a word - sweetened.

Over the years, we have developed Sweetened Tuning presets for a variety of instruments. These tuning presets are exclusive to Peterson products as only Peterson strobe tuners can provide the accuracy required to 'dial' them in on your instrument.

Like a musical score, a sound spectrogram is a visual representation of sound. The horizontal dimension corresponds to time (reading from left to right) and the vertical dimension corresponds to frequency (or pitch) with higher sounds shown higher on the display.

The relative intensity of the sound at any particular time and frequency is indicated by the color of the spectrogram at that point. A spectrogram provides more complete and precise information than a musical score because it is based on actual measurements of the changing frequency content of a sound over time.
