Running VB3 on Ubuntu 14.04 virtual server

Hi, 

I am trying to run VB3 on a clean Ubuntu 14.04 virtual server. 

I installed the necessary java (the requirements say java 8, but I installed 9). 

Downloaded the vocbench3-3.0.1-full.zip, and tried to run st_server_start script from the /bin directory. 

But I'm getting the message: 

sudo: bin/st_server_run: command not found

what am I doing wrong?

Dear Yael,

 

A couple of things:

 

1. Java version. Sorry, it has to be Java 8. The version of the Service Container we are using (Karaf) is only compatible with Java 8 and doesn’t work with 9.
2. I can’t give you a specific solution for your second issue as it is not a VB issue but something related to your OS. Do you find the bash file in the version you downloaded? If it is there, you should see it. Not sure if you need to configure the rights for running it (well, you preambled “sudo”, so it should not be a problem), but at least it should be visible. I see you wrote “sudo: …”. Not sure, are those “:” really part of what you prompted, they should not be necessary I guess.
   Plus it depends from where you started the command. If you were not on the proper directory (though u said u were in /bin) you might not have found the command.
   One last question: by /bin you mean a relative path (i.e. you were in the bin directory of the ST you downloaded, which is what you should do) or you were in the absolute path “/bin” in your file system?
   Sorry if I asked trivial questions, but I just have to guess what you were doing
