Hi list

Are there any comprehensive instructions on detting up both vocbench and showvoc on the same data in a docker environment?

If not, I'm happy to work with anyone to get that done.

TIA

Peter

Dear Peter,

besides Docker, some notes on having VocBench (VB) and ShowVoc (SV) on the same data.

Even if sharing a common technology (Semantic Turkey, ST) they are meant to be different, separated, platforms. The reason is that they have (some) different assumptions. E.g. the global, cross-dataset, lexical index that is available in ShowVoc is not updated at each single data change as the basic project-local index in VB is. So, in SV, the reindexing is based on updates to the dataset that are performed through the specific calls of SV.

That said, it’s not that it is not possible to have coincident data. It’s not something that I would suggest for a production environment. However, to the purpose of demoing, this is possible.

2 scenarios are possible:

  • Have separated platforms (VB/ST and SV/ST). In this case, you have, from VB, to tell that you are creating a project based on an existing repository (if you created the project from SV). Or viceversa, if in the opposite order.
  • Have a common ST, putting both VB and SV clients on it. Again, this is totally for demoing, and there are many reasons for which something might not work. But.., with some caring, you can keep this two-headed Frankenstein alive :-) In ths case, this is even easier, because a project in VB will be a dataset in SV and you don’t have to recreate them.
One important thing: the first start of the platform, when the SemanticTurkeyData is created, must be done through SV. This is because SV has some additional setup that is necessary for it to work.

Kind Regards,

Armando
