Dear all,

first: Thank you for approving and welcoming me so quickly! Very much apprechiated :-)

I love ShowVoc and used several classifications without any interference so far. Thank you a lot for this amazing work!

May I kindly ask for advice?

I might have encountered an issue in the LUCAS SU LC+LU+FT classification:

https://showvoc.op.europa.eu/#/datasets/ESTAT_LUCAS_Classification_2022_%28LUCAS_SU_LC_%2B_LU_%2B_FT%29/data?resId=http:%2F%2Fdata.europa.eu%2Foxm%2Flucas2022%2FA00

The original Classification:
https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/concept-scheme/-/resource?uri=http://data.europa.eu/oxm/lucas2022/lucas

Most of the data seam to be missing. There are only the codes themselves (and correct, as far I understand the classification). However, the names and translations are missing.

I am fairly certain that these were available two months ago. I have tried several times over the last few days. So this might be a new problem.

Would you please be so kind and look into it? Please let me know if the problem can be solved and, hopfully when?

Many thanks and best regards from Germany,
Franziska

Dear Franziska,

by first, thanks for the appreciation for ShowVoc. I’m really glad it meets your expectations and that you are already using it on several classifications without any issue!

About the question, I’m afraid this is a content-related one. While I’d be glad to help (I’m not strict about being in-topic on this list), however I don’t know much about this classification nor why the one on the EU Vocabularies site is different from the one in ShowVoc.

Just to clarify as I understand this might be somewhat confusing for users: the Publications Office of the EU is managing the funding of ShowVoc as an open-source project under the DIGITAL programme of the EU and it’s, at the same time, adopting it.

The ShowVoc instance you see at https://showvoc.op.europa.eu/ is the instance maintained by them and holding resources on behalf of other DGs of the commission (e.g. just an educated guess, I think that resource is managed by EUROSTAT) but we have no role in the maintenance of its content, we only curate the development of the platform.

I can look into whoever is maintaining that dataset and I’ll come back privately to you,

Kind regards,

Armando

Oh, before anything else, and pardon me if I ask something trivial: is it possible that you checked some concept scheme (scheme tab) and you see less concepts? I didn’t check the resource in detail, so I’m not sure what is the extent to which you see less resources. The schemes selection acts as a filter, so this might be what you are experiencing.

Kind Regards,

Armando

Dear Armando,

thank you a lot (again, sorry for repeating myself).

As scheme I ticked this:
:lucas

These are the settings I chose (every thing else as default by the system).

Dear Franziska,

thanks for the screenshot, they helped, as this is just a wrong visualization setting and no data has disappeared from the EU instance of ShowVoc; indeed, you mentioned names and translations being missing but earlier I read the email too quickly and I was mainly driven by the initial statement about missing data :-)

There are two settings that you need to change:

  1. The first one is the one of your first screenshot, which is associated with the rendering of resources. You set German and British English, however:
    1. There’s no label for German; furthermore, choosing a locale, such as British English, only works if there are specific labels for that locale (spoiler: there are not :-) ), so you should simply choose English. Or, more simply, you don’t choose anything for now, just leave everything blank; you will explore the available languages and then see which ones you want

  1. The second one is an educated guess, related to the filter for the labels that you can see in the resource view, but I’m pretty sure about it.
So, we need to cleanse that as well; click the gear button at the top-right corner of the resource view:

to open the resource view settings. Then scroll it down until the end, when you see the filter for languages in the res-view

and clean it up as well, removing all your language choices (I have no screenshot from you of this area, but I guess you selected the same languages there as those you selected for the rendering).
Pls be sure to disable the filter as well (through the toggle-switch on the top right corner of this language filter area)

  1. Use now the refresh button on the tree
    (second from the right)
    to reload the tree;
you will see the resources with English labels again. And when you click on each resource, you will see the English labels (only English labels are available in this thesaurus) again in the resource view

Hope it helps!

Armando

Dear Armando,

it does! Thank you and I am blushing deeply. I couldn't believe that there is no translation and I clicked on too many buttons and lost myself.

So we can conclude that I am spoiled by the other classifications, which offer extensive translations for many languages (often for all EU languages). ;-)
Now I will sit down and translate the technical terms myself to the best of my knowledge and belief. *sigh

Thank you a lot. I learned something here.

Enjoy your day.

Glad it helped :-)

about those settings, they are project-local (but you can set defaults). So you can always check the content in each specific project and decide how to change them.

Furthermore, if you prefer to see everything, just leave it blank. In the case of the value-filter, you can even leave it set but toggle the filter. This was you can keep your language choice and then decide to apply the filter only if it makes sense for that project.

Kind Regards,

Armando
