Dear VocBench users,

I recently confgured Vocbench 3 v14.0.0. I created a SKOS scheme. I added some extra users, so my collegaes could edit the SKOS scheme as well and add new concepts. However if I log in (as admin), i could add new concepts and topConcepts, but new users are not able to added new concepts. There is a yellow triangle saying: 'no conceptscheme selected creation operations are disabled vocbench'. But the users are able to see the concept scheme.

I gave them all available roles possible. And if I open the data page I got a 403 Forbidden error. I have no clue how to make new users able to add new concepts.

Some further information. I work with a reverse proxy and everything works fine, but if a other user is trying to select a concept scheme it throws the 403 forbidden error. If I log in myself, it works totally fine.

from your description it appears simpler than that. They have to select the concept scheme (sorry, hope I’m not saying anything trivial but in your email you only mentioned being able to see the schemes, not that they selected any). By selection I mean not just clicking on them, rather ticking the checkbox next to them.

The rationale is that there are certain defaults associated with the creation of concepts, such as adding them automatically to the selected concept scheme(s); consider also that VB enforces the addition of concepts to the concept scheme, so if there is no scheme is selected, it is not possible to univocally determine the association (or at the least, the default to be suggested) to perform on concept creation.

Thanks for your response. When they select the conceptScheme they get this 403 error. After a server restart, this also applies to my own account. On the server itselft (localhost), there is not error and it works just perfectly fine, therefore I think it is because of the reverse proxy:

I do not think it is a problem with the proxy redirection, since if it was something related to the proxy, the users would have problem even when logging to the VocBench itself (mainly because, due to a problem in the proxy, the tool would not fully recognise the whole login process).

So, a couple of questions to better understand what is happening:

• Are the users able to create a scheme?
• What roles do the other users have?
• after the server restart, are you able to create a new scheme and select it (via the checkbox near the new scheme itself)? (in this case there could be some problems with the permission in the filesystem caused by the fact that VocBench could have been executed by a different user, with different file-system privileged than the one that executed it before)

Hi Andrea,

I created a test user, which has all roles available assigned. Then the user is able to create (and delete) a new scheme. However, after creation when checking the checkbox of the scheme it get this 403 error again. So it is able to create a new scheme but not able to check the checkbox near the new scheme.

Hi Nicky,

this is quite strange.

Could you please do this other quick test with this test user? Click on the avatar (in the upper right part of the window) and select "Preferences". Then, in the "Language" tab, check any language (under the "Active" column) and see if you have any error or if you are able to check the languages.

The idea behind this simple test is to check if there are any problems in updating the files on your installation (since both checking a concept scheme and checking a rendering language are immediately saved in the configuration files on the server side ) and I think that the problem may be related to the file system and the permission to change it, somehow.

Yes I am able to check any language and storing it, without any error. If I go to the server and login on the localhost:1979, I have no issues and be able to select the conceptscheme without issues.

Doing some search, it seems that sometimes the "nocanon" can cause the 403 reply. Could you please (if possible) try to execute the proxy redirection without the nocanon (so by changing the two ProxyPass by simply removing the two nocanon at the end)?

If you still get the 403 response, would it be possible to know, exactly, which request is receiving the 403 response? Each action done on VocBench may result in multiple requests to the server (when checking a scheme, 3 or 4 requests are sent to the server).

In Firefox (on Windows but it should work similarly on other Operating Systems ), for example, if, on the open VocBench window, you press CTRL+SHIFT+K you open the Web Console ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-perform-firefox-tasks-quickly#w_tools ) and there you can click on the "Network" tab to see all the single requests done. So, in that tab, after you have cleared the list (by pressing on the "bin" in the upper left part), you can click (in VocBench) on the selection of a scheme, the following requests are normally sent:

• storeSettings
• countTopConcepts
• loading.gif  (this is just to request a small animation gif from the server)
• getTopConcepts

near these requests (on their left) you should see the "status code" (if everything went well you will see a "200"), but in your case, one of these requests is receiving a 403 reply
