Hello,

I have a question regarding resulting uncertainties when using the cascading function in VNA Tools.

I measured calibration standards (for SOLT), a 30 dB attenuator (male-female), a male-female adaptor, and their combination (male-female adaptor + 30 dB attenuator) in N50 ohms. After error correction I wanted to de-embed the adapter using the cascading function to compare these results with the attenuator measurement. The overlap of the measurement results looks ok.

When I compare the uncertainties (see pictures), there are areas where the uncertainty for the measured attenuator is larger than in the cascaded case.

Shouldn't cascading generally increase the uncertainties?

Cascading: Inv(Adaptor) * ( Adaptor + Attenuator).

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Markus Schoger
