Posted a few times and everyone I talk to says VMWare doesnt support NT4
due to M$ no longer supporting it. I've noticed a lack of activity here as
well. Wish I could dump NT4...

I've been unable to get the networking running under NT4 but it works fine
under W2k. pasted from a previous post...

Subject: Upgrade to 4.5.2 breaks NT networking
From: yea right <sp...@spam.spam>

Upgraded to 4.5.2 from 4.0.?

NT4 SP6a boots fine but networking is dead. There was no DCPH request in
the log file. I'm using NAT.

IPCONFIG in NT4 command shell returns simply

"Windows IP Configuration" and nothing else.

System event viewer says that the driver is "AMDPCN1 : A required
parameter is missing from the Registry. " In typical windows fashion, it
says not what is missing.

I'm still thinking this is an NT problem. I've re-installed the nic driver
twice to no avail.

Any ideas where to look next? Thanks In Advance!

I haven't tried creating one under 4.5.2, but my older ones do work, with
a qualification: I can only log in on local accounts. That may be a
network issue on the server side, though. I can navigate anywhere on the
LAN on Internet.

What's the legality of me shipping you a copy of my VM?

I've got an NT4 VM that's run on all versions up to and including 4.5.2
and also on the 5.0 beta with fully working networking. I'm not doing
anything special that I'm aware of.

Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the network card driver within
the VM?

yes. Many many time, Even removed all networking and re-installed.

After two months of dicking around with it off and on, I ended up just
loading RH8 and VMWare v4.0. last night. Reading the user support pages,
it appears other people running NT4 are not able to get this to work as
well. Luckly, I made a copy of the original virt disk before I upgraded
and it started running right away. Just like the way I left it.

Only problem I've had with the latest VMw and NT4 is that the VMware
tools break the login process. Once installed you can no longer login
to the NT vm. Domain or local both broken. My solution was just to
avoid the vmware tools. Lots of people experiencing the same stuff from
teh posts I've seen. NT's dead, still great, but dead unfortunately.
Planned obsolescence sucks huh?

Hi Glenn

I had the same message after installing NT SP6a for 128 bit encryption
over a NT for 56 bit. With NT SP6a for the lower 56 bit encription, all
works fine now.
