Cannot install VMware 5.5 on XP Home

Hi!
I downloaded the trial version of VMware 5.5 and tried to install on
Windows XP Home. But when the installation was almost finished (ca
95%), it hanged. After about 10-15 minutes I killed the installation,
rebooted, and tried again. But now the installation says "Setup has
detected that VMWare Workstation is already installed on this machine.
Please uninstall this product through Add/Remove Program and try
again."

However, there is no VMware field in the Add/rem prog meny. I ran
regedit.exe and searched for "vmware" but there are hundreds of hits, I
can't remove them all. Does anyone know
a) where Windows stores which programs that are installed or
b) howto reset vmware installation
