VMnet8 network adapter missing

Hi,

I installed VMware workstation 4.0 on my Win2k server. Installation
went fine and I also was able to proceed installing Linux in one VM.
However, I face now problems with networking. Everything is configured
but ping to default gateway isn't successful.

I checked then ipconfig on the Win2k machine and see that only one
VMnet adapter (VMnet1) is there. On all my other machines VMNet1 and
VMNet8 is available.

Two questions:
1) Is this the problem that the network bridge is not working / must
VMnet8 be there in any case?

2) I assume if the answer to question 1 is yes - then I need to
reinstall VMware, correct?
