Can't "use" MS Virtual PC images???

I just installed VMPlayer assuming as implied on web pages that I could
"import" my virtual machines created using MS's Virtual PC.
"import" my virtual machines created using MS's Virtual PC.
I get an error message "Failed to open virtual machine: Failed to query
source for information." for both my 98SE and my Linux virtual PC's.
Running XP as a host.
Is there something I should do besides uninstall the software. I have no
desire to create them again.
