Damn! Just posted my ???.... and then had an idea... with UAC enabled on
Vista, you must launch VMware Workstation's admin interface using "Run As
Administrator" or else it's unable to connect to physical devices.

Problem resolved....

I have VMware Workstation v6.0 beta e.x.p. build-39849 running on Windows
Vista Ultimate x64 edition on a Dell Precision desktop system using a quad
core 64-bit Intel XEON.

Anyway, I tranferred over some existing 32-bit VM guests and they booted and
ran OK, but they can't be connected to the CD/DVD drives on the host system.
Likewise, new VM guests that I've created also have the same problem.

Here's the message I get anytime I try to connect any VM guest to a CD/DVD
drive on the host system:

"Unable to open the drive "E:". Another virtual machine or application may
be using this drive exclusively. Please correct your configuration. Failed
to connect virtual device ide 1:0."

I've disabled the Windows Defender anti-virus software, and there's no other
type of anti-virus software running on the host system.

I'm logged on as an admin account, but UAC is enabled, too.

Any ideas what might be going wrong?
