installation of vmware workstation 3.0.0 - 1455 on WinNT 4.0

I installed vmware 3.0 workstation (1455) on an winNT 4.0 (SP6) workstation.
When i startup the application a popup appears with then text "You
environment block appears to be corrupted. Please fix your environment
block and try again.". No chance to fill in the evaluation-code or startup
the application. What's wrong??
Thanks for any help to solve this problem!

If I recall correctly, this means that in the environment variables
section on the host (under Control Panel --> System) there is an
environment variable being set that has no matching value. Since this
is an illegal case (you can't set an environment variable to a blank
value under NT) you get an error message.
