What would be the best choice of Host OS running a VMware Workstation?
It for a powerfull laptop to run: Linux's and WinXP/Vista and maybe
also Solaris as Guest. Itr's for SW development, LabVIEW, Company and
Privat installations.

The first choice is the OS shipped with the machine, which should be
capable of handling all physical devices and related protocols. Nowadays
a 64 bit host system is recommended, required if you want to use 64 bit
guest systems.
