I had the same problem in the past weeks, with different Linux host
systems: the systems do not resize when the VM window is e.g. expanded
to full screen, even after the VMWare tools had been installed.

Does there exist a general procedure, that allows to configure X11 (or
whatever) for the *current* resolution of the window, instead of some
predefined size?
Similarly Windows guests do not stick to the specified (or full screen)
resolution, instead they resume with a smaller resolution, and adjust
all open windows accordingly, before the VM window is enlarged to the
current or last size (before suspend).
Any remedies for such unwanted behaviour?
