does VMware recognise an exsisting windows installation?

Hi

I am considering running vmware on my laptop. However I was wondering if it
is possible to configure vmware to look for an existing installation of
windows rather than forcing you to install a new copy? I read you can do
this which saves a lot of time, but I cannot find the docs that support the
claim.

Any ideas?

What you want to do should be possible but it is not the easiest
configuration. In the docs they (vmware) say one should install vmware
first on a virtual disk and after gaining some experience with the product
to try the other way.
