poweroff a esx server

Is there a way to poweroff a esx server with the halt -p command
physically ? The esx server shuts down write as last line

"Power down."

on the console, but thats all, the machine didnt really switch off.
Hardware is a HP DL385.

Try the "shutdown now -h" command without quote.
