Hi everyone,

As most of you still following this group have probably suspected, VMware is no longer actively supporting the View Open Client.

If you are including the View Open Client in a commercial product, please consider signing up with the Thin Client Certification Program to get access to the latest client binaries and source code (no, PCoIP source code is not included!!).

If you are a View customer, your VMware representative can provide you with the latest View client for Linux.

We willl shut down the project at the end of month, once we figure out where the "off" switch is.

Thanks for using the View Open Client!

Regards,
Ben

Why can't the View client for Linux be made available for direct download from VMware's site?  I'm aware that I can get the client through the Ubuntu software store, but I'm not an Ubuntu user and installing an Ubuntu system just to get the software seems a little silly.

What about the -orig.tar.gz (minus the fact that it's only x86
binaries)? I'm actually working on making it a little easier for
users of another distro at the moment.

Where would one find these? And are they the latest version?

Ah! Now that I have the files, it was a relatively easy effort to
create Fedora packages (well, for someone that's done this sort of
thing before). You'll have to build your own since I can't legally
distribute the binaries but everything you need short of the original
binaries should be here:

https://github.com/jcollie/vmware-view-client

I've got a few more tweaks I'll be adding. The one caveat is that
Fedora 18 does not have a new enough version of FreeRDP so you'll need
to rebuild the Rawhide version.

I'm working on making a package that includes a build script such that
end users can create their own package to store in their personal
archive.

Based on my interpretation of the license docs in the tarball and an
assumption (due to Ubuntu/Canonical's lack of response:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vmware-view-client/+question/210992
), Canonical likely has a separate distribution license agreement with
VMware that covers the select servers this package is built by and
distributed from.
