Anyone know if Vmware Open Client is in active development? It sure doesn't look that way.
This app is just a few bug fixes away from enabling me to ditch Win7 completely. Would be nice to know if someone was out there doing some coding on this thing.

Thank you.

Hi Kenneth,

The Open Client is no longer in active development. If you are looking for a View client for Linux, the "official" version with PCoIP is available from the Ubuntu Software Center.

Ben

Thank you.

How are people that prefer other Linux distributions supposed to get the "official" client?

If permitted by EULA (which I'd genuinely expect), download, extract, repack.

What other Linux distributions are you interested in using?

Google for "Pc repurposing", click on the first link. There are a number of articles that point to  ways of repackaging the Ubuntu package.

Yes, I've done that for other software, but it's something that not
everyone can/wants to do. Is there a way to download the software
without installing Ubuntu? I don't run any systems with Ubuntu on it,
and while it's not that hard to do I'd prefer to skip that step.

Yes, it will be very convenient if RPM package is available.

I said extract.  A quick Google search of "extract .deb" yields a plethora of hits.  .deb is conveniently not special in what format the archive is in but just its contents/layout.  I'm planning on checking licensing and doing the same for another distro already.

Yes, I know what a .deb is and what to do with it once I have it.
What I was asking is how do I get the .deb without installing Ubuntu?
The links on VMWare's web site just point to the pseudo-url
"apt://vmware-view-client" which isn't very helpful on a non-Ubuntu
system. If I have to install an Ubuntu system just to download the
.deb I'll probably just keep on using the old open client as long as
it keeps working.

Yes, we are thinking of providing an RPM package. We probably need an "expert" to help us create that. Any volunteers?

No promises. Just a thought...

Hi,

Though I am not an expert but I have some experience writing RPM spec
files. I can volunteer I there is nobody else want to do that.

Hi,

is there any progress regarding rpm build plans? I can offer support to create/build for EL5/6 (i386+x86_64) and Fedora 17 (i386+x86_64). Let me know if you need help in creating spec file.

Cheers,
Thomas
