Hello!

I am looking for additional user-written pages for RSX-11M/M+ RMD
(Resource Monitoring and Display) program. Currently, I know about
the following pages:

AT - Active Tasks
CF - Checkpoint File
DA - Device Activity
FD - Files-11 Display
IO - I/O counts
LL - Logical Link info (DECNET)
MD - Memory display
PU - Processor Utilization (formerly CP, renamed)
RM - Remote Node info (DECNET)
SS - System Statistics
ST - System Tuning
TH - Task Header
UI - Device Unit Info
VI - Volume Info - files open on F11 volume
WI - Files-11 Window Info - Files-11 file accessors

Some pages are (C) DEC, others are written by the distributed
systems software engineering, ST, UI, VI and WI are written by
myself.

Please send any info about pages unknown to me <to e...@vse.cz>.

Thanks in advance

Eduard Vopicka.

Eduard - I never heard of user-written pages for it. Do you need the
sources in order to write them? Or is there some protocol that allow RMD
to read your definition files? And how do you switch to those pages?

Sorry to answer your question with a bunch of other questions 8-) - JC

Hi John.

Sorry for answering so late. :-)

RMD pages are to be programmed in MACRO-11. It may be relatively difficult to write and debug them. It is relatively easy to integrate new pages into RMD, RMD's overlay structure was designed with this in mind.

RMD is /PR:5 program, so there should be no bugs. You will ligely see XDT prompt if there are bugs.

Yes, you need the source, but this is no problem, RMD source comes with binary distribution. At minimum, you must add entry to RMD's dispatch table that allow access to your new page. Also the help page should be modified to mention your new page.

In addition to writing and integrating new pages, I have made lot of changes to DEC supplied pages and the RMD core, but especially changes to RMD core were only made to support new pages in more comfortable way and are not really needed.

Hope this answers your questions.

Brgds,

Ed

Has anyone found it useful enough to support 132 columns, and/or more lines.

Had a Pro 350 once, now taking a poke at xHomer.

Just a minor point, but do you actually have any actual
hardware terminals or emulators which support more
than 24 lines?  The only DEC terminal that I know of
that supports 48 lines is the VT420.

For emulation, ERSATZ-11 also supports more than
24 lines.  With the DOS variant, a video card and monitor
are needed which provides that support.  The ERSATZ-11
command SHOW  VIDEO describes which line and
column combinations are supported.

For the Win32 variant, the user can initialize each ERSATZ-11
session with the number of lines and columns which the screen
should use.

I am an RT-11 addict, so I can't answer about the RSX-11
operating system.  In addition, on occasion, I do attempt
to check out RT-11 programs which will run under RSTS/E.

I am however, VERY confused with respect to what seems
to be your question and how many lines and columns a given
program supports.  The DEC VT100, VT220 and VT320
terminals supported two screen modes:
        24 lines by 80 columns
        24 lines by 132 columns

Starting with the VT4xx series, I believe that those DEC
terminals also supported 48 lines.  Is your question the
number of lines that DEC terminals supported?  And by
inference, are you asking if any DEC programs written
for PDP-11 operating systems (or specifically in your
case just RSX-11) also supported screens with more
than 24 lines?  And then, of course, your final question
seems to be that if DEC did not support more than 24
lines, has anyone else attempted to do so?

PLEASE  CLARIFY

By the way, under RT-11, I have found it useful to
enhance programs to support more than 24 lines
and / or more than 132 columns, specifically KED,
but also sL: and SD:.

Now that you pointed it out, I do recognize that the original
post was 19 years ago ...

However, my archives only go back to 1997, so I guess
I missed it back then. Better late than never.

Hello.

My post is still not outdated. I am still interested in user written RMS pages not mentioned in the original post.

Please note that to make snapshots of RMD pages in the original post well readable, non-propotional font must be used to display these samples.
