I have this very irritating problem. I have 3 computers hooked up in a
network. one of them acts as a server which is running Microsoft
Windows 2000 professional. It has a shared folder to which the two
other computers connect. The computername of the server is SERVER and
the share is named SERVER_C ... ( \\SERVER\SERVER_C )
The other two computers is running good old ms-dos. thay are two
point-of-sale terminals which is runnning an old dos-based
cash-register system. I have installed MS Network Client on the two
computers, and use the "NET USE f: \\SERVER\SERVER_C" command to map
the drive f to the servers share. From this shared drive, I run the
cash-register-system, stored on the server, so that the two
point-of-sale terminals ar working at the same datafiles... Everything
works just fine and everyone is happy...This can run perfectly for
several hours until one of the POS-computers are not used for about 15
minutes ( there has been no network activity from that computer for 15
minutes).. then the next time I use it, it hangs and I have to reboot
that computer to make it work again...
After monitoring the server ( runnning windows 2000 pro ) I can se
that there are two sessions connectet to the server. Which sounds
correct... But then suddently after 15 minutes of inconenctivity from
one of the pos-machines... that session dissapeares.???? I think this
is the problem??... Maybe it times out and closes the connection or
what happens..???
Hope there're som clever people out there which can help me solve this
problem...
I have tried both TCP/IP, NETBIOS and IPX protocols, all with the
same problem :-(
Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Jesper
