I am having problems getting the REDIR to accept DOS 5.0
I have entered the DEC sugested :
setver redir.exe 4.00
and many other versions of the same commnads....
I assume others have been this way before...
Questions
1) Any sugestions?

2) Where are the archives for this news group kept?

Did you remember to put the line:

DEVICE = C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE

in the config.sys file?

Pathworks has to be installed specifically for DOS 4. Get your Pathworks disks
and re-install, changing the DOS version to 4.00 in NETSETUP.

What are the exact error message you got? Here is some suggestion. DEC has got
two different instructions for people to make MS-DOS 5.0 work with Pathworks.
One of the instruction says to use

SETVER REDIR.EXE V4.00

and another one that says to use

SETVER REDIR400.EXE V4.00

Try the second one to see whether it works or not. I used it and it works.

I think it is stored on the same system as you have sent your mail to
(MIAMIU.BITNET).

The REDIR was indeed looking for a different version. The solution
was to update the redir.exe to the redir400.exe ( I was using a DECstation
316 which was at dos 3.1 so it loadedd a redir for that version.....
Thanks to all for the help

This is my first attempt to put something into this system so be gentle if
I mess up.

You must be using the REDIR400.EXE from the PW4.0 distribution. The
REDIR300.EXE barfs at DOS 5.0 regardless of the SETVER command.

Just a thought.

The above tip only works with the DOS 4 version of REDIR. If you're upgrading
from DOS 3.x to DOS 5.0 you need upgrade from the 3.x version of REDIR. Connect
to your server and on the system disk look for /LMDOS/REDIR.400. Copy that file
to your local DECNET directory (on the machine you're upgrading) and rename it
to REDIR.EXE (or REDIR400.EXE if you wish--make sure the name matches in
STARTNET.BAT).

Make sure you have the line DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE in your CONFIG.SYS.

At the DOS prompt type SETVER REDIR.EXE 4.00 (or REDIR400.EXE if that's what
you named it). Reboot for the change to take effect and run startnet. You can
run SETVER to see the list of programs in its database--make sure REDIR is in
there.

Make sure, if you use the setver to version 4.00, that pathworks is
installed for that version. If you went from 3.3 to 5.0 then 4.00 will not
work.
