DECUS '94/NEW ORLEANS TO FEATURE LEADING SPEAKERS
FROM DIGITAL AND THROUGHOUT THE INDUSTRY


SHREWSBURY, MA, April 21, 1994 -- Following the theme of "Managing
Complexity: Succeeding in a Multivendor, Multiplatform World", DECUS
'94/New Orleans, the upcoming seminars, symposium, and trade show event of
the DECUS U.S. Chapter, will feature a variety of leading speakers from
Digital Equipment Corporation and throughout the computer industry.

Leading the list of speakers is Digital Equipment Corporation's President
and CEO, Robert Palmer who will provide attendees with an update on
Digital's strategies and direction during the event's keynote address on
Monday morning, May 9.

Palmer will be followed by Bud Enright, vice president of Digital's
Client/Server Software, Systems Business Unit. During his presentation
entitled "Implementing Open Client/Server Now", Enright will discuss the
underlying technologies and critical open standards incorporated into newly
announced Digital products.

Other plenary session speakers include: Samuel Fuller, Digital's vice
president of Research, and Jerry Baker Senior Vice President, Product Line
Division of the Oracle Corporation. Dr. Fuller, who is responsible for
Digital's corporate research programs, will discuss the growing
"Information Revolution" on Tuesday morning, May 10. Dr. Baker will deliver
the Wednesday, May 11, plenary session, "UNIX in the Enterprise: The Right
Choice For Mission Critical Client/Server Solutions?"

Douglas Lenat, one of America's leading AI researchers, will present "CYC,
Enabling Software Agents to Work Together" on Wednesday May 11. Lenat will
describe the current state of the CYC project which allows the sharing of
knowledge and expertise between knowledge-based systems and software
agents.

Elaine Bond, President of OURS, Open User Recommended Solutions, leads off
a software licensing stream on Tuesday, May 10 with "Better Multivendor
Computing." Bond will describe what OURS, a working cooperative of leading
users and vendors of information technology, is doing to clarify and
standardize licensing in the multivendor, multiplatform world.

Linus Torvalds, heralded as "the Father of the LINUX operating system",
will make a rare speaking appearance outside of Scandinavia on Thursday,
May 12 when he will present two symposium sessions. Torvalds will present
an introduction and discuss implementation issues regarding LINUX an
independent implementation of the POSIX operating system specification.

By presenting speakers such as these, DECUS provides today's Information
Technology professionals with the information they need to succeed in
delivering services across multiplatform, multivendor environments.

DECUS '94/New Orleans May 7-12, 1994, will feature in-depth seminars and
symposium sessions which cover virtually every area of computing, a
hands-on Digital Technology Center featuring the products, services, and
technologies of Digital Equipment Corporation, and the DECUS Trade Show
where over 100 vendors from the Digital marketplace will showcase the
latest applications and software solution offerings.
