INFORMATION SUPERHWY DAY AT THE DIGITAL ACT 3/9/95
*Background*
Today 33 million people have Internet E-mail from work and school, within
the next 18 months over 100 million will have some form of Internet access
from their computer systems.
Digital wants to help companies to understand and utilize this Information
technology to become more efficient as users, consumers, navigators and
vendors on the Information Superhwy.
E-mail, Internet Firewalls and Security, Mosaic, Home Pages, and
Internet access, is rapidly expanding the connection between companies
and individuals at a rate faster than any information infrastructure
in history (remember when the Telephone caught on, it's happening
again folks;-).
Digital can help to connect into that expanding infrastructure today and
help businesses navigate and use resources, advertise and transact
business instantaneously instead of using U.S. Mail or courier services
and at much lower costs.
CATCH THE WAVE
The new "Information Superhighway" is on everyone's mind right
now. What is it really? How can I use it for my company? How can I
use it for my job? How can I get access to it?
Well asking questions and reading about it just won't do; you have to
"EXPERIENCE" the Information Superhighway before you can truly understand
it!
On Thursday, March 9th, you have the opportunity to explore the
Information Superhighway firsthand, directly from Digital's own
secure Internet access points, using Digital's PCs and workstations.
Digital will give you an opportunity to experience the World Wide Web
(WWW, Web, W3),Mosaic,Netscape, Internet News and E-mail . These tools provide
an easy to use multimedia and hypertext interface with which to navigate
and use the Information Superhighway.
You'll breeze through connections to your favorite university's archives,
NASA's latest photos and technology, Library of Congress or the latest
IRS tax forms, The Smithsonian, and even Access the Home Pages of your
favorite vendors and clients. Digital began the First Commercial WEB
Server October of 1993, come and see how the WEB has evolved and changed
since that first step of commerce and what it can mean for you and your
business today.
As you "WebSurf" the thousands of other sites in the US, Canada, Europe
and Asia you'll understand the power and usefulness of the Internet, by
searching and out technical papers and documents at the click of a mouse.
See how your customers could purchase your entire cataloge from a typical
WEBmall, or how to send FAXes across the country without long distance
charges. The Internet is a vast exciting technology that's growing by
as much as 15% each and every month.. Come see why!
When you see what the Information Superhighway is capable of, you will
understand how it can play a major role in your future business success,
and the education of your children not tomorrow -- but TODAY.
The Internet is a brand new frontier for electronic commerce and interchange,
does your business need a presence on the Internet? Come to the Digital
WEB Surfing '95 Seminar and decide for yourself.
WHERE DO WE BEGIN?
You begin by attending Internet Day at the Digital Application Center
for Technology (ACT)! Come and listen to technical sessions on E-mail
and Web Technology or just experience first hand the new media tools on
Digital's new 64-bit PCs and workstations (the fastest in the industry!)
running MSwindows, WNT, OSF/1 (Unix) and OpenVMS.
The agenda will consist of introductory material in the Morning Session
and advanced topics in the afternoon. You are encouraged to enroll
in one or both if you're a novice on the net or just attend the sessions
of interest to you if you're a veteran cybernaut. Please RSVP to help us
plan for how many will be there;-)
Breakout sessions will be on various Internet topics and there will be
hands on use of the Mosaic Web navigation tools (that come installed at
no additional charge with all new Digital 64-bit workstations!).
Customers can listen to the presentations or just SURF the WEB compliments
of Digital Equipment Corporation.
